In the passage Still Manifesting Feminism, Jennifer and Amy talked about how the world
was changing but so was Manifesta. I quote The evolving world meant that Manifesta evolved.
This has to be my favorite quote from this passage. I know you may find this weird, but its so
powerful to me. Not only is Manifesta evolving but so is feminism. This whole idea is forever
changing and so by them saying that the world is evolving is ironic. This idea stuck with me
during the whole time I was reading because we have read in the past that feminism is a forever
changing term. Its never set to one meaning because it is always revolving.
Amy is a take-action type of person. I can completely relate to her. By reading her
introduction I know that she is a person of action. She likes to make things happen. Jennifer on
the other hand is more of a critical thinker. In Amys introduction she said that Jennys book
proposal was more cultural and critical while hers was more Feminist Activism 101. This lets me
know that Jennifer is the brains behind all of this but Amy is the face of the book. She also says
that she thinks as herself an activist first and a writer second. I can relate because writing was
never really my strong point so I always put everything else first. She is a hands-on person and
taking action is what shes all about. I feel like Jennifer is more of the research aspect of the
book. They had to put their brains together and agree to disagree when writing Manifesta.
They each brought different strengths to writing the book.
In A Day Without Feminism, is says that in a few states, it was against the law for a
male to teach grades lower than sixth grade. This being said, it was understood that men could
not be trusted around young children. This is still present in todays times. In most schools,
female is the gender of majority of the teachers, especially elementary schools. I can only
imagine how it must feel to not be able to have a certain job because of your gender. I dont
understand why its okay for females to be trusted around younger children. There has been
plenty of cases reported where the female teacher molested a student. Why should we stereotype
men in this idea that theyre dangerous around young children? I find this topic ironic however,
because we are talking about men being victimized but womens oppression is the main issue.
This issue is still present today in schools all over the country.
