Presenter: This is the Early Bird Show and here are your Monday morning
headlines with Hayley Smith.
Headlines: Humberside police have stepped up patrols following the terror
attacks in Paris. These patrols lead to the arrest of a suspected Islamic terrorist in
Hull. Bakr Hamad was arrested in the early hours of Thursday morning. However
Police have stated that it is not believed that Hull was a target. Assistant
Constable Coral Foster said that these extra patrols a vital for the wellbeing and
safety of the public.
Assistant Constable Coral Foster: I do believe that these patrols are allowing us
to keep the public safer as they are allowing us to arrest more suspects and get
these dangerous people off of the streets. Even though we do believe that Hull
was not a target this arrest does prove that attacks could happen anywhere so
these patrols are essential.
A former head teacher, Richard Gilliland, and his finance director, Steve Davis,
have been accused of stealing thousands of pounds which should have been
used in childrens education. Mr Gilliland was also accused of suppressing a CRB
check to employ his son, Kia Richardson who was previously arrested for
possession of heroin and public indecency and making payments of the stolen
money to his son
Meanwhile burglars steal some confidential patient records from the home of an
NHS worker. The home of Hilary Gledhill, a director of nursing in the local area,
was broken into and some confidential records were stolen. The thieves stole a
laptop belonging to the organization, which contained patients records along
with the workers car which was later found, burned out.
Pupils from Healing Academy were invited to attend an annual prize giving
ceremony and be congratulated on their achievements. Many students were
given trophies and shields to reward them for outstanding results in their GCSEs.
The various awards were given to high achievers either on specific subjects or
overall. We have a reporter at Healing Academy to interview the teachers.
Outside broadcast presenter: What is your reaction to the success of the

students?
Outside broadcast presenter: Do you believe that the students who are doing
their exams this school year can do even better?
Will term-time holiday fines be dropped? Fines for parents who take their children
on holiday during term-time could be eradicated. These strict rules were
introduced by the department of education 2 years ago. However, this argument
has sparked up due to a father winning a court case and avoiding prosecution as
he refused to pay a fine for taking his daughter on holiday during term-time.
Here we get some thoughts from the local public.
Vox pop presenter: Whats your opinion on this possible changes to the fines for
term-time holidays?
Vox pop presenter: Do you believe that if this rule is eradicated that more
parents will take their children on holiday during school and therefore having a
negative effect on their education?
