MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT

PROCEDURE
Introduction: __15_ minutes
Hook/Attention Grabber: Read Color me Rhyme. Review Colors of the Day. Get students to
retell the story. We are going to pull out important words to create a word bank.
Assessment of Prior Knowledge: Review post cards for peace writing and fall five senses writing.
Expectations of Learning and Behaviour: I expect the students to brainstorm vocabulary to use in
their descriptions. Begin writing their descriptive paragraphs.
Transition to Body: Before we start our descriptive writing we are going to create a word bank
using words from Colors of the Day as well as words we brainstorm as a class.

Learning Activity #1: Web the words
There are many ways to say the same thing using many different words
Examples
o Small: little, compact, tiny, miniature.
o Big: large, massive, giant, mighty, extensive.
o Good: excellent, superb, wonderful, marvellous.
o Pretty: brilliant, lovely, beautiful, appealing.
o Blue: cobalt, sapphire, navy, royal.
Learning Activity #2: Create word bank
We are going to create a bank of describing words. In your writing you should use some of
these words. The amount will depend on what your artwork is, but I would say use at least 5
of them
Examples of words in the bank
o Deep, glitter, whisk, thick, full, delicious, proud, wild
Learning Activity #3: Finish artwork or start drafting
If you are not done your artwork take the next 20 minutes to finish it up then start writing
your draft
If you are done your artwork start writing about your artwork. This is just a draft so it does
not have to be perfect.
