All teachers identified as enhanced, standard, and streamlined must develop a Professional Development
(PD) Plan and submit to the Principal for SY 2015-2016 by October 2, 2015. The PD plan should be a basis
for open dialogue throughout the year to identify and discuss best practices and supports.
I chose
this question because:
Stepping Stones and its other resources help to improve my practice in which it differentiates math concepts
and strategies to support my student strengths and needs.

My Plan is:
1. Consult professional literature and online videos.
2. Classroom Achievement Plan
Assessments
- Student binders measuring curriculum and student progress.
3. Delivering instruction with confidence.
4. Collaborating with co-teacher and 3rd grade level teachers during PLC.
5. Personal reflection of practice.

My essential question is:


If knowing math content and pedagogy equips teachers to provide better instruction in math, how can I use
Stepping Stones and other resources to improve my practice?

Stepping Stones Module 3- Multiplication and Telling Time to the 5 minute and 1 minute interval
CMS2 (video) Teaching the Doubling Strategy for Multiplication Number Facts
Handout, Teaching for Mastery of Multiplication

Instructional strategies from CMS2 Teaching the Doubling Strategy for Multiplication Number Facts were
used. This included the double, double dice activity and the highlighting of double, doubles on a
multiplication table.
Handout, Teaching for Mastery of Multiplication, the strategy on repeated addition (grouping and
partitioning) was used as a supplement for multiplication.
The website, https://learnzillion.com; the direct instructional video on telling time was as a supplement for
telling time to the 5 minute and 1 minute intervals.
Stepping Stones, Module 4- Fractions
- DFM3 (video) Analyzing the Area Model of Fractions

Instructional strategies from DFM3 (video) Analyzing the Area Model of Fractions were used. This
included the Make a Match dice activity in which students have two dice; they have to roll the dice
twice; and using the overhead projector, students will float those numbers near the visual
fractions projected.

The website, https://learnzillion.com,; the direct instructional video on Fair Share and Fact Families were
used as a supplement in reviewing the partition (sharing) model of division and in practicing/developing
fluency in multiplication and division facts within 100. Arrays will help students to visually see the inverse
relationships of multiplication and division as well.
The article About Introducing Division presented strategies for division such as using a combination of
multiplication, addition, and subtraction. This strategy will be implemented into Module 5, lesson 5.6,
Reinforcing the Fives and Tens Division Facts.
Describe your student learning successes.
Module 3- Students enjoyed the double, double dice activity. The concept itself,
double, double, was challenging for students because it was a new concept, but
overall, students were engaged.
Module 4- Students did really well with Module 4 and Fractions. My class meet 100%
proficiency.
Module 5- My SPED students did really well with the fact families worksheet. The
worksheet definitely helped them with multiplication and division fluency.

List any challenges and how you addressed those challenges.


My SPED students had difficulties with Module 5 on division. In reinforcing those
concepts, I used maunipulatives.
