Daily Lesson Plan

Lesson Title: Stained Glass Narrative

Grade Level: 4th

Introduction as the roles of stained glass windows as a didactic form of art making, the students have not
been previously taught that art tells stories. The lesson will be a three-day sequence as a didactic art
lesson.
Concepts and Skills:
Students will create a narrative, using skills in composition and color with glue and a transparent surface.
Vocabulary:
Abstract, Composition, Transparent

27 - Analyze how the arts function in history, society and everyday life.

Purpose of Lesson (Overall Lesson Objective):


Given actual examples of the expected results and a PowerPoint showing stained glass narratives
throughout history students will demonstrate their own characters and stencils using the glue method on
picture frames to create skillfully effective narratives.
Daily Objectives:
Day One: Students are shown examples of narratives in stained glass through history and given actual
examples of the project and provided with some stencils to create their own composition for their narrative.

Assessment Criteria: Notes: 1) Link criteria to objectives, 2) Rubrics, etc. should be included as attachments
Did the student convey a narrative with their stained glass?
Did the student use a stencil and an original image in their composition?
Did the student show skill and craftsmanship in the final product?

Background Information:
Stained glass in churches were used to tell stories to those who could not read in history. Show examples
of stained glass throughout history and the stories that they are telling.
- PowerPoint is attached with pictures and information to be presented.

Introduction:
Show examples and PowerPoint of the historical
examples of story telling.

Students ask questions about the material.

Development:
Have students pick out a stencil and start to develop
their own characters.
Brainstorm their narrative.
Create their composition.
Glue downs their composition on paper.
Trace the paper on the picture frame with black
glue.
Wait till the glue dries.
Plan out colors
Fill in the shapes with colored glue.

Development:
Students will develop ideas.
Students will have questions on what to create a
story about.
They will create a composition.

Conclusion:
Students will have learned about story telling
through art.

Students will critique their own work and the work of
others to figure out the narrative.
