Writing Assignment Three: Making and Breaking Rules: A Managers Viewpoint
This article shows us the managers viewpoints about controlling operations and enforce
standards meanwhile encouraging their employees to improve levels of communication. To
providing guidance to others, the manager needs to make these three problems clear: What are
the Rules? How can we apply the rules? And how can we have quality control? This article
gives us a detailed explanation. Because a manager's activities often effect on the formulation
and application of rules, he or she should be on a management view of rules. And the manager
should think about whether or not it will help to communicate.
There are rules everywhere, but the standard of the rules is not the same. The standard in
one place does not apply to another. People who are in different positions have different rules
as well. The manager control the process would be to take over the job, apply the judgments
and make the choices and marks.
The section caught my attention most is telling the definition of rules. This article divided
the rules into four broad categories, the basic concepts that characterize good communication,
the established (more or less) precepts of grammar and design, "house rules" and managerial
guidelines. The manager should use different kinds of methods to make their work succeed by
analyzing where control is possible, where only guidance can be provided, and what elements
should be emphasized in shaping the work of the group.
The rule refers to the regulations for everyone to abide by the system or the articles of
association. It helps us to limit the nonstandard behavior, protect personal interests and reduce
conflict. Because the rule has binding absolute or relative. Human behavior within a certain
range before they can get permission behavior is feasible behavior, not the behavior of a
completely unfettered. This permission includes the nature, the society and the others. This is
the constraints of the rules. In this conditionality contains the individual personal stakes,
therefore restricting rules is ubiquitous, also cannot be eliminated.
We must abide by the rules guiding principles as behavior patterns, but sticking to

conventions cannot lead to progress. Therefore, in order to keep the rules dynamic stability,
continuously updated, daring to break the established limits the existing rules will make a
difference. As the basic principles and behavioral guidelines, the rule does not only constraint
one's behavior, but also define privileges and obligations of their jobs. It makes the whole
enterprise operating system to achieve maximum efficiency through their own synergies.
At some stage of business growth and development, in order to achieve business value of
the enterprise, it has to choose the management rules conforming to the prevailing
circumstances, conditions, behavior and other aspects of human consciousness. Therefore, the
rules relative stability. In other words, some rules have a positive meaning only in certain
conditions the development of enterprises. But once these conditions change, the rules affect
enterprise value even reaction in the value of enterprises, it is necessary to adjust the business
rules.
So, I think the manager is a person who would have infinite common sense, patience, and
sensitivity and be responsible for of others work. A good manager ought to set goals and
planning as well as lead by example to create maximum value for the enterprise.
The progress of the enterprise requires innovation. The process of innovation is the
process of breaking rules. In the modern enterprise, the manager is not only the main designers
of innovation strategies and the organizers of the innovative activities, but also the builder of
innovation environment. The manager plays a central role in the enterprise independent
innovation activity.
