take modeled notes with the teacher on the various literary terms.

Alternative Assessment: Students will complete packet with photo


identifications of literary terms as well as a crossword and a musical lyric section.

3. Checking for Understanding: Teacher will check for understanding as he/she models notes
as well as during handout activity by monitoring progress.

Literary Devices Video: Input with Teacher guidance (6 minutes)


Literary Devices Cornell Notes: Teacher will model and discuss definitions with students. (30
minutes)
Literary Devices Handouts: Handouts were modified for lower level students and an additional
section was added for higher level students that was included in all packets as an optional
assignment. (30 minutes)
Quote Interpretation: Students interpret quote on log-ins

Teacher will ask for rapid-fire examples of specific literary devices.

literary terms.
Alternative Assessment: Students will complete packet with photo identifications of
literary terms as well as a crossword and a musical lyric section.

Post Lesson Reflection


1. To what extent were lesson objectives achieved? Students struggled with the identification of
the terms despite the video and note segments of the lesson and therefore a review/ practice
activity was added to the next lesson day.

2. What changes, omissions, or additions to the lesson would you make if you were to
teach again? I would add the additional review lesson to the literary devices day and would have
some kind of group activity for the students to practice literary devices collaboratively.

3. What do you envision for the next lesson? A review of terms and another application of terms
before moving on to sonnets.
