Assignment: L3-b

Abstract
L3_B is the second assignment of L3 assignments series. As the
real problems in L3_A assignment was defined. Now this is the time to
generate ideas about our artifact that has done in L3_C assignment.
The main objective of this assignment was to generate ideas that our
future project will include. In the beginning of this assignment each
individual of our group brainstormed 10 must and wants about the
artifacts. After brainstorming, on 17 th November meeting was managed

in the library to perform two steps. First, Boggle method was used to
delete the duplicate ideas of each member. Next, the Multi-voting
technique was used to choose 10 best musts and wants about our
project. In previous step every member had a special symbol to vote
for an idea. After these steps, Random Stimulation technique was used
to generate new ideas (musts) than previously considered. After,
random stimulation, Osborns Checklist was used to generate
additional alternatives (wants) that were related to previous obtained.

Work
In the Beginning working on this assignment was very important
for us as team to be ready for the final project and improve our skills in
using the methods and techniques to generate many ideas and decide
the best ones of them. The work of this assignment will be divided into
many steps. All the steps will be written below with their enough
explanation.

Task 1: Generating the Musts

The assignment L3-b is divided into two tasks, the first one is
generating the Musts of the final project. In this task there will be more
processes than other to finish it, first there will be a clear evidence of
using the Brainstorming method, then the Random Stimulation will
help us as a trigger, after that the Boggles method must be used to
delete the duplicated musts, and finally there will be a multi voting
method for the remaining Musts to decide the top ten list.

Step 1.1: Brainstorming

In this step the musts statements must be defined. The musts
are mandatory to achieve a successful solution and have to be
measurable. In our team the leader who was member five asked every
member to write ten must sentences. He gave us two days to do this
step before our meeting. In the first meeting for this assignment which
was in Monday in 16 November, our team had sixty musts sentences.
So the next table shows our brainstorming for our must sentences.

So, these were our results in this step. Now, we will go to the
next step which is boggles method.

Step 1.2: Boggles Method

This is the second step of generating solutions which is the same
process that was used in the second step, boggle method of the
artifacts. The main purpose of the boggle method is to filter the ideas
by removing the duplicate ideas.

Step 1.3: Random Stimulation

After brainstorming and boggle method have been done,
Random Stimulation technique was done. This technique used to
generate more ideas. Words were selected randomly then made it
related to the topic by writing a sequence of words until reached to the
final statement. More ideas were added to our Musts list. They will help
us to choose an appropriate artifact. The Random Stimulation process
and final ideas in the table were presented.

Discussion
In this step, how to modulate a word was learned, extract other
words and expressions from it. And generate a good and useful idea at
the end of the process. Random words were taken and tried to match
them to reach to final ideas. Five more Musts for our project were
created by the Random Stimulation technique.

Step 1.4: The List of Musts

In this step, the data were collected according to two stages:
First, brainstorming was done by collecting 10 ideas about musts from
every member that means we had about 60 musts and a boggles
method was done to remove the similar ideas. Second, Random
stimulation was done which is identified previously to increase the
ideas.

Step 1.5: Modified Multi-Voting

This is the final step of this task, generating musts. In this step
the musts will be voted to identify our final result of musts. Since there
are 37 ideas, so every member has 12 votes. Every member has 12
votes because the total number of generated ideas and all the
generating techniques were divided by 3. So, every member has
approximately 12 votes. Also, every member has to choose his mark or
symbol before start voting. So, this (!) is member 1 mark, this (&) is
member 2 mark, this ($) is member 3 mark, this (#) is member 4
mark, this (*) is member 5 mark and this (@) is member 6 mark. Every
member can vote on a must three times as maximum.

Discussion
From the previous results, our artifact must be according to
Islamic values. Next, the artifact must be finished by time, because we
wouldnt success in IE201 if we didn't finish on time even if the artifact
was perfect. Also, how to use the artifact must be learned. Weapon or

10 | P a g e

harmful thing must not be used. Finally, our project must be creative
not repeated in previous class.

Task 2: Generating the Wants

The assignment L3-b is divided into two tasks, the first one is
generating the Musts of the final project which have been explained
above, the second task is generating the Wants. In this task there will
be more processes to finish it. First there will be a clear evidence of
using the Brainstorming method, then the Osborns checklist will help
us as a trigger, after that the Boggles method must be used to delete
the duplicated Wants, and finally there will be a multi voting method
for the remaining wants to decide the top ten list.

Step 2.1: Brainstorming

Before technique is being written, in this step the Wants
statements must be defined. The Wants are desirable but not
mandatory and give us a comparative picture of how the alternatives
perform relative to each other. In this step, our leader who is member
five asked every member to write ten Wants sentences our team had
60 Wants sentences. So the next table shows our brainstorming for our
Wants sentences.

Step 2.3: Osborns checklist

There are many ways and techniques for producing ideas. Each
member of the group used Brainstorming technique to generate ideas
by his own self. The technique that now id going to utilized is Osborns
checklist. Osborns checklist techniques are used to generate
additional alternatives that are related to those previously obtained. It
is useful to help a group build on one other's ideas. Osborns checklist
is one of the important techniques of generating ideas and it is a
modification of the work. Osborns checklist will be used and applied to
generate more ideas for Wants according to the Osborns checklist
definition shown in the table 2.3.1.

Discussion
Osborn's Checklist was utilized, which gave us so much
advantage to generate ideas and it helped us learning new technique
of generating and overcoming obstacles that affect brainstorming new
ideas. Seven wants were chosen, which are gotten from the members
brainstorming and the attribute of Osborn's was applied.

Step 2.4: The List of Wants

In this step, the data were collected according to two stages:
First, brainstorming was done by collecting 10 ideas about wants from

Step 2.5: Modified Multi-Voting

After all these steps were done, 47 wants sentences were found.
So this number was divided by six to find the number of votes for
every member. Every member has 12 votes to make for the entire list.
Before making votes was started, our leader mentioned that you have
2 votes maximum for each sentences. Also, every member has to
choose sign for his vote. Therefore, member one choose (!), member
two choose (&) .member three choose ($), member four choose (#),
member five choose (*) and member six choose (@). So making votes
are started to and the results was found, shown in the next table.

Conclusion
Effective, beneficial and ethical objectives (musts and wants) can
reach a project to a successful and prosperous point. For reaching to
that point in this assignment few methods were used and performed a
number of techniques that helped us to get the final most important
musts and wants of our project. This assignment helped us to learn two
important techniques: 1) Random Stimulation and. 2) Osborns
Checklist, which probably benefit us in the future. Firstly, in this
assignment each individual generated his own ideas about our artifact,
and then boggle method was used to remove duplicated ideas. Next,
Multi-Voting technique was used to choose 10 best ideas. Finally, two
techniques were applied Random stimulation and Osborns checklist to
increase the number of generated ideas.
