Instructional Objectives
Content Objective: Students will be able to recall and utilize their knowledge of solving various
algebraic equations in order to complete Algebra task cards with QR codes in a group with 90
percent accuracy.

Standard and Indicator


Common Core Mathematics Standard 7.EE.4a
Use variables to represent quantities in a real-world or mathematical problem, and construct
simple equations and inequalities to solve problems by reasoning about the quantities.
a. Solve word problems leading to equations of the form px + q = r and p(x + q) = r, here
p, q, and r are specific rational numbers. Solve equations of these forms fluently.
Compare an algebraic solution to an arithmetic solution, identifying the sequence of the
operations used in each approach. For example, the perimeter of a rectangle is 54 cm. Its
length is 6 cm. What is its width?
Indicator:
This will be evident when the students successfully complete the Algebra Task Cards
with QR Codes.

Motivation
Students will work in group to complete Algebra Task Cards with QR Codes..

Strategies
Direct Instruction: This will be evident when the teacher directly explains to the students how to
complete the following task, as well as appropriate behavior during the activity.

Group Work: This will be evident when students work in a group to complete the Algebra Task
Cards with QR Codes. Students should discuss the appropriate method to solve the given
algebraic equations.

Adaptation
A power point presentation on the SMART Board, along with a modeled example, will serve to
enhance the visual learners. Student with visual impairment will be given an enlarged copy of the
task card and answer sheet.

Differentiation of Instruction
Tier 1: The students will be able to solve various algebraic equations when provided a sample
problem to following along with.

Tier 2: The students will be able to solve various algebraic equations.

Tier 3: The students will be able to solve various algebraic equations and list the steps used to
arrive at an appropriate and reasonable solution.

Developmental Procedures

The teacher will display pre-determined groups on the Smart Board in which the students
must find their name and table area.
Once students have found their groups, the teacher will ask for a volunteer to pass out the
Algebra Task Card Answer Sheet.
The teacher will then directly instruct students on how to complete the given task.
Students will work with their group to complete the various algebraic equation problems.
If the student has difficulty solving the equation they can scan the QR Code on their
phone, which will then lead them to a website that will assist them with the problem.
While students are working on this task, the teacher will circulate the classroom assisting
any student who needs help with the content or technology. The teacher will also check
for student understanding when circulating the room.
Prior to the close of the period, the teacher will instruct the students to turn their desks
back into rows and to hand-in their completed answer sheet.

The teacher will grade their answer sheet in order to assess student comprehension and
understanding.

Assessment
Students will complete the Algebra Task Cards with QR Codes on the given answer sheet with
90 percent accuracy.

Independent Practice
Following the lesson, students will be complete the Algebraic Equations worksheet as a
homework assignment.

Direct Teacher Intervention


The teacher and the student will work together on sample problems. After the teacher reviews a
few problems, the student will them attempt to solve a problem under the guidance of the teacher
by explaining each step used to arrive at the appropriate answer.

Academic Enrichment
The student will be asked to create their own two-step equation. The student must then solve the
equation and write a brief summary of the steps used to arrive at the appropriate solution.
