STATEMENTS OF INTENT
Ideas Presentation | 23 Oct 2015
Working in teams of 2 or 3 students, you will imagine and conceptualize 3 project
ideas for an animation film (minimum 1 minute) respoding to the IMBALANCE brief,
and produce their corresponding Statements of Intent for presentation.

highlighting an identified aspect of IMBALANCE.
2. A metaphorical narrative based on identified perspective on the IMBALANCE
thematic.
3. An experimental film that innovates, pushing technical and aesthetic boundaries
towards making new meanings, in response to the notion of IMBALANCE.
Statements of Intent must be uploaded on your Blog page by Thursday 22nd October, 11:59 pm. These will be presented for review on Friday 23rd October.
As a group you will take ONE of these ideas into production.
Your Statements of Intent should include the following :
1. Documentary project
Subject matter/issue/character: WHAT core thematic are you exploring in this
film?
WHY are you making this film? What is your point of view/angle? How is it
bringing a new light on the subject? How is it challenging commonly held ideas
about this aspect of social reality?
References (inspirations from other films and other cultural artefacts).
HOW will you explore this subject or issue, or character? Will you use real voices? Will you use visual archives?
How will you produce or access your materials?
What will your documentary look like? Provide sample style and technique.
Identify skills that are needed to achieve this aesthetic.

NOTES AND GUIDELINES
- The final films duration should last between 1 and 2 minutes.
- You must aim to create an experience that is complex and stimulating for its
audience. Your audience is ADULT and INFORMED (ie it knows a lot about animation and art culture). Therefore there is no point in merely emulating animations
that already exists. You must be as original, bold and expressive as you can.
- SOUND DESIGN will be paramount. You are required to create an original
soundtrack that supports your project. You must engage with this activity creatively and address sound consideration at Development stage.
- Your film needs to present a thoughtful approach to its theme/topic/subject, so
as for all your other projects in your degree course, you must engage with RESEARCH. Interpret and visually support your research in a manner that not is only
expressive but that also informs us of the imbalance you are exploring.
- The materials exhibited on your Blog page and your active engagement in tutorial and review sessions will provide the basis for evaluating your Development
mark (30% of final mark). Therefore, display your research, development and production processes on your Blog page, and attend all reviews and tutorials.
LOOKING FORWARD TO LISTENING TO YOUR IDEAS!
