Dear Dr. Bruce,
During the course of the semester I have completed many assignments that have
challenged my skill and comprehension as a technical writer. I feel that throughout the semester,
my expertise in writing and language has developed and improved. This letter is to inform and to
persuade you that I have a greater knowledge and understanding of how my work in this
portfolio meets the learning outcomes for this class.
Over the course of the semester, I have gained a significant amount of experience writing
for a variety of audiences both formally and informally. The progress report memo I have revised
specifically meets the formal rhetorical focus SLO, the organization and focus SLO, and the
academic language and design SLO. I feel that the progress report meets these SLOs through its
use of professional and informative language, appropriate white space and headings, and
organizational use of bullet points to condense information effectively. The progress report is
efficacious because of its use of direct and assertive syntax regarding my teams position in the
iFixit project and is proficiently and aesthetically pleasing to catch the readers attention with the
use of eloquent style.
The rhetorical focus SLO is further met with the informal aspect of the progress report
peer review my iFixit team collectively conducted. The progress report peer review was
accomplished in order to provide supportive feedback to another group regarding their
developing progress report. However this feedback was not meant to be published publically and
it was written with casual yet helpful language. Additionally the peer review also meets the
collaboration SLO because it was completed with communication and teamwork from everyone
within my group.
I have decided to attach a slide from the e-waste presentation I contributed to in order to
meet the ethical research, collaboration, and the organization and focus SLO. Slide 14
specifically demonstrates that I am knowledgeable of how to ethically cite a quote and is proven
with the author and the citation in APA format at the bottom of the page. Moreover, The
powerpoint slide meets the collaboration SLO because of the communication that was completed
between my e-waste group members through e-mail and a shared google docs when creating the
presentation.
Finally I am using this cover letter to fulfill the persuasion SLO, organization SLO, and
the language and design SLO. I believe this cover letter is strong enough to persuade you that I
am aware of the student learning objectives and I am confident to apply them within my work. I

hope that after reading this letter you will recognize my growth and development as a technical
writer and my regard to the student learning objectives. I hope you enjoy this e-portfolio.
Sincerely,
Rebecca McKinley
