Dear Dr. Bruce,

The purpose of having this letter is to display the documents contained in my portfolio in
this way. During the semester of English 301, we had writing projects to show you that I have
satisfied the student learning objectives (SLOs) and to move on my next step as a writer because
time and practice will only help get better. The student learning objectives are a list of goals that
every teacher has made for the beginning of class either the students abide by these intentions or
not they are set to help others understand what the students are working towards by finishing the
class. In English 301 our SLOs are rhetorical focus which is being able to write in type of
context and write towards an type of audiences with many purposes, ethical research is the
ability of showing others where you have gotten your information and citing it correctly in any
type of essay form, persuasive arguments will you understand not only your side the other side
knowing how to persuade someone to being on your side of the argument but still showing both
sides of the arguments, organization and focus is being able to communicate your thoughts
clearly and successfully to address a rhetorical situation, academic language and design is to
recognize the language and context of the paper and also the cultural differences, last but not
least collaboration is one that will take time to get better and getting feedback of ones work to
help them understand there writing skills. I will admit I might not be the strongest writer but as
the more classes I take the more and more I have realized writing is very important to me and my
career in which why this portfolio I take very serious because it is just for a class but will help
me understand my flaws and how I have improved as a writer during this semester of class. My
editorial is a big part of my portfolio and I will believe satisfies all my SLOs because not only
was it a big paper but we have worked on for almost half a semester we have been talking about
this paper and getting feedback every week from your peers to help you understand what you
should and what you shouldnt do. But most importantly my editorial really reflects me as a
writer, because I might get As on my other papers in other classes, but I know I have many
weaknesses as a writer but honestly time will only help me get better. For instance I know I
ramble a lot and have some many great ideas of what to write about and always have arguments
both sides of the issue but trying to organize them and putting pen to paper the only one that
seems to understand is me. But this editorial has really challenged me to figure out what kind of
writer I am and what I can do and if I was really writing to a newspaper.
Sincerely,
