Description & Traits

Weak, sniveling, demanding, and constantly ill
Linton is described as a pale, delicate, efeminate boy. Linton has thick pale
blonde hair in curls which is described as thicker than mine [cathys]. He large
blue eyes which are said to be languid eyes-his mother's eyes and he is very
slim and frail.
He is both physically and mentally weak and through most of the novel Hinton
finds himself ill:Immediately seized in a sufocating cough. His looks and
movement are very languid and his form extremely slight but he also has
etiquette and class. He has grace in his manners that mitigated these defects.
when he turns 16 nelly states he is determined to be as grievous and harassing
as it can. Heathclif describes Linton as playing the little tyrant and he'll
undertake to torture.

Actions & Behaviour

- He submits to change when faced with conflict when custody is passed to his
father, which reveals the weakness of his character and lack of spirit.
- Depicted as weak and shallow in nature.
- Is tactless and selfish, the boy finding enough animation with discussing his
weakness and deficiencies, utter lack of sympathy had rendered young
heathcliff selfish and disagreeable, if he were not so originally.
- becomes imperious and demanding: Linton can play the little tyrant well. Hell
undertake to torture any number of cats, if their teeth be drawn and their
claws pared
- Self indulgent nature: We were recalled by a scream. Linton had slid from his
seat on to the hearthstone, and lay writhing in the mere perverseness of an
indulged plague of a child, determined to be as grievous and harassing as it
can

Association
Linton is seen to be initially a boring and timid individual, with his inability to act passionately and without fear. This essence of Linton's
behaviour would place him as being associated as childlike and weak.
This can be seen through the way in which he submits to being passed
to his father.
Also he can be associated with evil as he enjoys the pain of others- AH
uyre a heartless, selfish boy!

Speech & Reputation

His reputation in the novel is not particularly positive and is reinforced
by the narrators frustrated, irritated and pitying tone. Also reinforced
through description, efeminate, weakly, and cruel, having the worst
characteristics of both parents.
He uses his status to manipulate the tender-hearted younger Catherine.
weak yet still entitled (land+Male)
Disgusted i began to dislike rather than compassionate Linton, and to
excuse his father, in some measure, for measure, for holding him so
cheap.
