Title
Heather
Case Study # 13
Diagnosis and Explanation
Due to Heathers extreme discomfort in social situations, and fear of speaking to people I would
diagnose her with avoidant personality disorder. Heathers main coping mechanism for her
problem is to avoid her fear which fits in well with my diagnosis.

Behavioral Therapies
For this patient's diagnosis I would suggest gradual exposure to social interaction. This type of
exposure is hypothesized to work much better then throwing the patient into an intense social
situation all at once.

Cognitive Therapies
During cognitive therapy we will discuss these major questions.
Why are you so afraid of failure?
What do you believe will happen if you speak to people you dont know very well?
Have you ever had an experience in which you spoke up with strangers and it went badly?

Group Therapies
With this type of disorder it is ideal to introduce the patient to individual counseling first, but
farther into treatment group therapy with others who also have personality disorders has the
potential to be helpful.

Biological Treatments
Because avoidant personality disorder is a diasease of the mind this type of therapy will not be
required.

Case Study # 28
Diagnosis and Explanation
Mr. A has antisocial personality disorder. Though he doesnt show signs of being a
bully, lying, or violate the rights of others; he is egocentric, purposefully asks questions that cant

really be answered to make them seem incompetent, and will do things that seem risky like
getting a job at a pizza shop just after graduation.
Behavioral Therapies
The therapist and patient need to work together to find the problematic thinking patterns
and perceptions of the world. This could start off with the therapist describing different situations
and, or putting the patient into different situations, and they record their responses to those
given situations.

Cognitive Therapies
There should be set guidelines to the patient's involvement in treatment, such as regular
attendance, participation, and any work given to be done outside of visits. The main goal should
be for them to understand that they are the cause of their actions, and that they must face the
consequences. These patients are often difficult to work with, so one will have to remain aware
of their emotions and keep from their emotional responses from disrupting the therapy process.

Group Therapies
Group therapy for this disorder is highly recommended. The patient is put into situations where
they are forced to emote and therefore are able to work through the problems at hand.

Biological Treatments
Since this is more of a disease of the mind biological treatments will not be required.
Case Study # 33
Diagnosis and Explanation
Due to his dillusions and disorganized speech, I believe that Julio has Schizophrenia

Behavioral Therapies
In my opinion Julio should be put into a rehabilitation center in which they can give him daily
help with his Scizophrenia. This disease is best treated with constant attention and therapy,
where he will learn the social behaviors he never did and learn how to apply those to wordly
situations.

Cognitive Therapies
The goal of this therapy would be to challenge Julios misrepresentations. To get him to come to
his own conclusions as to why his thoughts are wrong. My suggestion would be for him to talk to
his parents and to show him his birth certificate.

Group Therapies
Group psychotherapy creates a realistic, equalitarian, safe context that facilitates the patients'
independence and therapeutic relationships. An active and productive context that permits the
acquiring of an agreed upon reality and better self-knowledge of the patients, that socializes and
motivates them, and that becomes a reference group for them.

Biological Treatments
Schizophrenia affects 2.4 million American adults each year, according to the National Institute
of Mental Health. It is a chronic brain disorder characterized by bizarre delusions, hallucinations,
disorganized thoughts and behavior, and the absence of normal behaviors such as facial
expressions and goal-directed movements. Because schizophrenia is a biological brain
disorder, its treatments primarily comprise medications that target the abnormalities in the brain.
Types of medications commonly prescribed include conventional antipsychotics, atypical
antipsychotics, and sometimes, certain antidepressant medications.
