In my volleyball unit plan I used a pre and post test to assess my

students learning throughout the unit. The assessment I used was a
teachers checklist on the correct skill cues for the bump and set pass
in the game of volleyball. Using the pre-test allowed me to see the
students prior knowledge on the skills of volleyball. The majority of
sixth grade classes scored an average higher score than the fifth grade
classes because theyve had prior experience with volleyball skills. The
assessment was broken down into two sections: section one was the
bump and section two was the set. Each section had four skill cues that
I was looking for. If the student showed the skill cue I would place a
checkmark in that box. If they did not show the skill cue I would leave
the box blank. Both sections totaled eight points.
The final data seen above shows that each class improved on
their average scores for the post test. The biggest increases in scores

were five points from 1 to 6 and 2 to 7. The smallest increase in score

was three points from 2 to 5. Administering a pre-assessment and postassessment is a fantastic way to measure your students learning
throughout a specific unit.
