IbelievethatifIweretoassumetheroleofagamedesigner,Iamnotatallethnicallyresponsible
forcreatinganaddictivegame.Myjobistocreateagamethatpeoplewillbuy.Makingitaddictive
wouldonlyhelpthesalesandpotentialmarketofthegame.Mostgreatgamesareaddictive,
becausehavingfunisaddicting.Ifagameisboring,thennoonewillbeinclinedtobuyit,thusfailing
asagamedesigner.IagreewithEllaGuanawithherpointbeingthatgamersthemselvesdecide
howlongtheyshouldplay.It'smyjobasagamedesignertoactuallypushforthemtoplayfor
longer.IalsoagreewithAlexanderSheehythatagamemightnotbeasaddictingasitfirststarted
outastheplayerprogresses,howeverIwanttopointoutthatifitwasaddictingatthestart,
customerswouldbemoreinclinedtobuyasequeloranexpansionmeaningthegamedesign
aspectwassuccessful.
IfIhadtoworryaboutmakingagameunaddictive,thatwouldhurtmorepeoplethenitwouldhelp,
sincemostgamerswanttoplayagamebecauseagameisfunandaddicting.Alotpeoplewhoplay
gamesuseitasastressreliever,andIwouldbehurtingthosepeopleandprobablymycompanyifI
hadtoforcemygametobenotasfunasitcouldhavebeen,orsettingatimelimitthatwouldforce
theplayertostop.IthinksettingatimerwouldbeaterribleideasinceI'mprettysuretheaddicted
peoplewouldfindawaytogetaroundit(Multipleaccounts/gameconsoles)andjustfrustratethe
casualgamersthatwanttoplayextraontheirdayoff.

IagreewithBrandononthepointthatalotofthefaultlieswiththecompanynotcomplyingor
respondingatthehoax.Ithinkthecompanyisactuallyresponsiblesincetheyhadtheabilityto
provethehoaxwasfalseandbeingabletoconfirmthatinformationwasindeedfalse.The
punishmentfortheirinabilitytoactandthemlosingtwothirdsoftheirstockvaluewasaboutjustified
becauseacompanyofthatvalueshouldhaveimplementedacounterinitiativeforthatsituation.The
companyshouldhavecounteractionstofalsestoriesandbewillingtoletthepresshaveinformation
toprovethefalseinformationisreallyfalse.Itwasn'tethicalforthepersontoreleasethehoax,but
companiesshouldbeabletoreacttothesesituations.
OnerecentexamplethathappenedthispastsummerinJune,wastheKFCrathoaxwhere
someonepostedonFacebookthattheyfoundafriedratinKFC'smeal.

ThewayKFChandledthisonewastheyimmediatelylettheconsumersknowthattheycanconfirm
thattherewasaverylowchancethatthiswasrealandtheywenttotestthemeatoftheratshaped
chickentoconfirmthatitwaschicken.KFC'spromptresponsewiththeconsumersandpress
preventedthedamagethatthishoaxcouldhavecaused.Thepersonwhopostedthepicture
probablyknewthattheratshapedchickenwasn'tactuallyarat,butinsteadtooktheunethical
approachandhopedtomaybegetsomekindofdealwithKFC.

IagreewithAlexanderthatgivingouttheemailsthatcouldinvolveotherpartiessuchasother
studentsisnotthewaytogo.IfIwasCIO,Iwouldreviewtheemailsandthenonlygivetheparents
one'sthatinvolvethesuicideandremoveanynamesandotherpartiesinvolvedfromthem.Ithink
thatwouldsatisfytheparentsandtheprivacyofotherpeopleinvolvedormentioned.Itwouldbe
unethicaltokeepinformationfromparent'sbutitwouldbealsounethicaltoshareprivacyofother
peopleinvolvedwiththepersonwhocommittedsuicide.Ithinkwithdigitalinformation,it'shardto
decidewhoactuallyownsit.
Ithinkmyfinaldecisionwouldbetogivetheparentstheemailsandthenremoveanyoutsideparties
names.Thiswillbringclosuretotheparentsandprotecttheidentitiesofallthepeoplethestudent
contactedwithemailssothattheydon'thavetofearbeingquestionedbytheparents.

IthinkJacksonCulphasmanygoodpointsabouthowifachildvisitsoutofsheercuriosity,thenit's
notsuchabadthing.ImeanwhenIwas12yearsoldandhadaccesstotheinternet,therewere
plentyofthingsIdidn'tunderstandespeciallywhenclickingonrandomlinksontheforums.Ifmy
parent'severwitnessedmedoingthatandthencametotalk,Iwould'velikedforthemtojustpretend
thattheydidn'tseeanything.Howeverifit'sarecurringthingtoseethemlearninghowtobuilda
bomb,Iwouldhintatthetopicandgetfurtherdetails.IfIkeptseeingpornographyonhis/herscreen,
IwouldprobablypretendIdidn'tseeitsinceit'snaturalandthey'ddefinitelybeembarrassedifI
questionedthemaboutit.
Ithinkiftheyhadaguidetosafersexontheirscreen,Iwouldbemoreinclinedtobringupthe
subjectandthentrytoteachthemmoreinformationaboutit.IfIsawanonlinegamblingsite,Iwould
probablyjustmakesuretheydon'tgetaccesstomycreditcards.
Ithinkthemostimportantthingistomakesurethatexploration/curiosityisnotseenasabadthing.I
thinktheonlythingIwouldinterveneandhavealonglectureonnottodoisifitinvolveddrugsor
thingsrelatedtomurder.

RichardiscorrectonwhatthestudentsdidintheClementiincidentweredefinitelyresponsibleinthe
wholeevent.IfIwasaadministratoratRutgers,Iwoulddisciplinethestudentsbymakingan
exampleoutofthem.IwouldincludetheITprofessionalstoverifythetechnicalaspectofthecase.I
thinktheItGetsBetterprojectisagoodwayforpeoplewhoarefacingtheseissuestocome
togetherandnotfeelalone.It'sveryimportanttofindaplacewhereyoucanvisuallyseeother
peopleandtheirsupportfrompeoplewhoarehavingthesameproblemsastheonesthepersonis
currentlyexperiencing.Itencouragesforthemtosharetheirstories.Italsoshowsthatthereare
manylikethemselvesandthattheyarenodifferent.Itisdefinitelyasmallbutrightstepin
addressingtheissuesofbullyingthisyounggroupofpeople.

Ibelievethattheuniversityhasarighttoinstitutionalizeit'sownperspectiveofmorality.Itshouldbe
generallyaguidelineformoralityattheschool.It'smoreimportanttoseeitasaguidelineinsteadof
strictruleshowever.LikeEllasaid,peoplecouldgetdeterredfromattendingtotheschoolifthe
statementsseemtoointimidating.Ithinksomeofthepotentialpositiveoutcomesisthatitconstructs
astructureofmoralityfortheschoolforanyonehasn'tenteredandalsoforthosethatareinterested
intheschoolitself.IthinkITplaysaneutralrole,ifstudentsareharassingsomeoneonline,thenit's
nottheinternet'sfault,it'sthestudents.Justbecausetheycanbetrackeddoesn'tmeanit'sIT's
responsibility.Ifapersonwrotesomethingharmfulphysically,itwouldbejustthesame.SoIthinkIT
playsmoreofaneutralrolewhenitcomestomorality.

Thepositiveeffectthatcamerasonourcampushasisdefinitelybasedonsafety.Thefearofgetting
caughtinacrimewillinstillfearincriminals.Havingcamerasalsohelpsbringpoliceandother
enforcersofsafetyfastertothesceneastheyalreadyhaveavisualperspectiveonthescene.Like
Ellasaid,it'salsoveryusefultohaveevidenceaswelltobeabletorecordeventandbeableto
identifythecriminals.
Thenegativeeffectsarethatsometimestheycanbecostly,andthemainimpactishowthecameras
willimpacttheethicalperceptionofthestudents.Mostpeopleingeneraldon'tliketheideaof
someonewatchingthem,andnowitisuptothestudentstotrustthecampusthattheywillonlyuse
thecamerasassafetymeasuresandnotunethicallyexposestudents.

Fromreadingthearticle,IagreewithRichardinthatweshouldnotpunishchildrenforemulatingthe
environmentthattheyareexposedtoo.Thereshouldnotbeafelonynoracrimeforsextinginmy
personalopinionbecauseit'stheirownchoice.Peoplemightarguethattheyarenotfullydeveloped
yettomaketheirownchoicesbutthatdoesnotmeantheyshouldbepunishedwithsomethingthat
couldruintheirliveslateron.Thegovernmentshouldbeteachingtheseconceptsinschoolsas
educationalandsafetymeasures.Ithinktheonlyotherpartiesthatcouldberesponsibleisifthe
childisgoingtoaschool,thentheteachersareresponsibleaswellastheparentsregardlessifthey
aregoingtoschoolornot.Thegeneralconclusionisthatthechildshouldn'tbepunishedwith
severelybuttheyshouldbetaughtinstead,sinceanychildwithaphoneprobablyhasaccesstothe
internetwhichcontainsworsecontentthansexting.

sincepaperusageisreducedbyalandslidesincealmosteverythingisdoneonline.Evenformath
classesalotofthehomeworkisdoneonlineandhandoutsaren'tgivenoutanymore.Thewaythat
thetrendisgoing,beingthatmorehomeworkandassignmentsarebeingdonepaperless,Idon't
thinkCSUMBhastodoanythingmorethankeepthattrend.
PaperuseformeisnotanethicalissuebutsinceIbarelyusepapertobeginwith.Idon'teven
rememberthelasttimeIprintedsomethingthatwasn'tforschoolandevenforschoolIdon't
rememberIactuallyhadtoprintoutalotofpapersexceptformaybeoneHCOMclasstwoyears
ago.CSUMBdoesaprettygoodjobinturningassignmentsthatcouldbedoneonpaperbyturning
themonline.Mainlyduetoonlineonlysubmissions.IrememberforotherclassesinanothercollegeI
hadattended,wehadtoprovideanonlinecopyandaphysicalcopyofpapers.
EvenifsomeCSUMBclassesstillgiveoutalotofhandoutsandrequirephysicalpaper
submissions,Ithinkthewaythatthetrendisgoingandrecyclingpaperingeneralhavebothbeen
increasedsincethelastdozenyears.IthinkallCSUMBhastodoiscontinuethistrendandsupport
torecyclingpaperandthenwe'dseeevenmoredrasticdropsinpaperusage.

casebeingatransferstudent,sinceIdidn'ttransferfromaCSU,thishadverylittleeffect,Ididn't
evenknowthatCST101wasaclass.Ithinksomeofthepositiveeffectsarethatbeinginlinewith
otherCSU'swillencouragemorestudentstoattendCSUMBandalsomakeourrequirementsfeel
moreofficialinasense.Itwillalsoenticemorepeopletoattendsincetheywon'thavetotakea
trivialclassthatotherCSU'saren'trequiringandfeellikeCSUMBisuptoparasanyotherCSU.
Potentialnegativeeffectsincludethefactthatsomestudentsactuallybenefitfromtheclassitself,
andwon'ttakeitbecauseit'sjustanaddedrequirement.Anotherpotentialnegativeeffectisthat
thereisonelessclassandpotentiallymorethatintroducescomputersingeneraltostudents.
Ithinksomeoftheethicalimplicationsthatthisactionwouldcauseisthefactthatitwouldbeunfair
tosomestudentsbothwaysintermsofremovingorkeepingit.HoweverIthinkitwouldbemore
unfairtostudentsifitwasremovedsinceitchangesthewaystudentsarelearningandhowstudents

IagreewithJacksonontheopinionofEtzioniandhowJacksonstatedthattheUSandFrance
areeasytargetswhenitcomestoprovokingtheirsenseofsecurity.IdefinitelythinktheUShas
thequickestreactionandretaliationwhenitcomestosecuritymuchlikehowIpredictEtzionito
thinkaboutitaswell.TheUShasincreasedit'ssenseofsecuritytenfoldafter9/11andnowit's
evenmoreobviouswhennewertechnologiesemergeorattacksthathappeninotherplaces
suchasFrance.
Ithinkthesenseinprivacyandsecuritycannotbothexistintiptopshape.Theymustbothlose
sometogainsome.Theycannotcoexistatboththeirstrongestpointswiththetechnologywith
havetoday.Ifyouwantinformationtobeentirelyprivate,thereisdangerinasensethatpeople
hidingdangerousmaterialsorinformationcannotbefound.Ifallinformationispublichowever,
thereisaverylowsenseofprivacyandalmostindividualityinasensebecausethereislessto
hideaboutyourselfandeveryoneismuchmoretransparent.

IthinkGraceHopperandEdisonarenumber1and2buttiedinasensebecauseEdisonhadmore
importantinventionsfortheworld,howeveralotoftheworkwasdonebyTesla.GraceHopperalso
contributedalottowhatcomputerscienceisnowtoday.IthinkwhatForddidcouldhavebeendone
byanotherpersonreallyclosetohistime,excepthewasthefirstdotoit.SteveJobsranks3forme

IthinkthescrapbookthatIdidontheVideogameviolencebroughtalotofattentiontotheclass
whenIpresentedit.ItgavealotofpeopleideasfortheEpaperaswellashavinganinclass
discussionaboutit.Itboughttolightalotofresearchdoneinthepastandalotofpossibilitiesinthe
futureaswell.Outofallmyscrapbooks,Ifeellikethat'stheoneIcareaboutthemostaswellloving
videogamesasmuchasIdo.Thingsaboutthatarticlesurprisedmeaswell,suchastheAPA
claimingthingsthattheyknewotherswouldrevoltagainst.Thegamingcommunityisavery
sensitiveoneinasensethatanythingthrownatthecommunityinanywayshapeorformasan
insultwillbemetwithstrongfeedback.
