Learning Styles

9/25/2015 4:38:03 PM

Learning styles is important in all aspects in the classroom. Learning styles are correlated with
multiple intelligences. Learning styles include visual, auditory and kinesthetic. Visual learners
learn through sight such as writing notes and reading textbooks. Auditory learners learn
through listening such as hearing a professor lecture during class. Kinesthetic learners learn
through action such as hands on activities. It wasn't until earlier this year that I personally
really understood my learning style. Once I figured out my learning style it made it so much
easier to study and even pay attention in class. As a teacher, we must be aware of all learning
styles in your classroom. This comes in need when figuring out why a student may not be
successful in the classroom. A teacher must not show too much attention to one learning style
in order to keep equality in tack. Accomodations are also determined due to learning styles.
Without learning styles school would just be lecture all day and every day.

While researching learning styles, I learned that Learning styles are simply different
approaches or ways of learning. I found 3 different effective learning styles which are
visual learners, auditory learners, and tactile/kinesthetic learners. Each learning style is
important to a student's success in academic. Visual learners think in pictures, auditory
learners use sounds, and Tactile learners use hands-on activities. Learning styles are
important to the success in the classroom. As a student, I felt the need to understand my
learning style to better my success. FIguring out my learning style, It has been easier to
retain important information. When becoming a teacher, I will be aware of my students
learning styles. Ultimately. this will help me regulate students who have trouble learning
faster.

Doing the learning style assessment, I noticed that I am a kinesthetic and visual learner. I
tend to found a key word or picture in a question/definition that will help me refer back to my
knowledge. Hands on activities are my favorite ways of learning. What are your learning
styles?

Jaleea,

I agree with you once I figured out what style works for me, it made studying and in class
assignments way easier to understand. I also liked your statement that a teacher cannot focus
on one style. It wouldn't be fair to the other students in the class that may learn differently.
Switching it up or using multiple techniques would be the best way.

I think this is a great response. Teachers need to understand and be able to figure out the
best way for their students to learn. Also not paying attention to one learning style in the
classroom. My wife teaches sixth grade and this is one thing that she does. She has class
discussions, independent work, group projects, notes on a powerpoint, moveing around the
room, and so much more all for one lesson.

Unit 4 Discussion
When researching learning styles, there are seven common learning styles that are used in
class and out of class. Many people have heard of visual or verbal learners but those are not
just the only two. There are physical, logical, social, aural, and solitary learners. I am more of
a physical learning and prefer a more hands on technique. Verbal learners prefer words
whether it is in speech or writing. Aural learners use more sound and music. Logical learners
use logic or reason when learning. Social learners learn better within a group or with others
compared to solitary learners that prefer to work alone. Each student in your classroom is
going to prefer a certain learning technique or a combination of multiple. As a teacher, you

would have to incorporate different styles within your everyday teaching so each student can
comprehend the material. Everyone learns differently and it might not be the same for each
subject.

Shelby I could not agree more, it is crucial for teachers to understand their student's individual
learning styles and how to incorporate that into our lessons. Teachers need to take each
student into consideration when they are looking at ways of doing an assignment, or teaching
a lesson.

Absolutely. I also explained how the different learning styles will effect the teacher's teaching
styles and how information will be presented in the classroom. It is very important for a
teacher to try and represent as many styles of learning as possible, but still make the lesson
understandable. Also teaching students about other learning types will allow them to adapt to
different styles of learning.

It is interesting that you mention that we first think of verbal and visual learning styles. You
are correct on this, and a teacher needs to take in account of the other learning styles. I did
not think of it being differnt for all of the subjects. That is a good thing to point out.

Learning styles
There are many types of learning styles. For teachers, they realize that many students do not
learn the same. Teachers try their best to incorporate as many learning styles as possible for
their students. Technology is one way that students learn in todays world. My wife is ready to
have the class computers, so that students learn more about computers and are prepared for
research. Students Textbooks are online and provide visuals, experiments, writing and chances
to listen to lessons. This for them can reach many of her students.

On learningstylesonline they talk about 7 different learning styles. you have visual, aural,
verbal, physical, logical, social and solitary. During a lesson students can be reached in many
of these sections. A tacher can create a powerpoint with images and pictures. Verbal can be
used for a teacher reading text or have the students. Physical relates to giving students a
chance to answer questions around the room . Social can be used for a class discussion as a
closure and then a chance of solitary to give students a chance to work aloe.

All of these can be incorporated to reach each different child and make lessons more active
and engaging.
