Triple The Pain: Girls Basketball

by: Ashley Powers

On October 15th, 2015, during the Moody versus Holman girls basketball game,
something shocking happened. There was a jump ball (a ball put in play by the referee,
who throws it up between two opposing players),and the ball was caught by Maddie K.
and immediately passed to Dareese W. Dareese then passed the ball to Taylor K., who
went to shoot a basket. Taylor K missed, but Carmen B. was ready. She jumped high
into the air to get the basketball, however, a player from the other team, number 13, was
going for the ball too. Instantly, they collided. Both players went down on the ground in
pain. Coach Dailey, the head coach of the HMS girls basketball team, ran out to help
Carmen B. and escort her to the bench. The Moody girls basketball teams head coach
did the same.
Carmen B. sustained an obvious injury to her forehead and had to be benched
for the rest of the game. The Moody player came off the basketball court injury-free. As
soon as Carmen B. was on the bench, HMS was stressed. The point guard was out and
down by eight points. The Holman team and crowd were panicking and waiting for
Coach Dailey to make the call.
The five players on the court from Holman were Dareese W., Kaylee T., Taylor K.,
Christine D., and Taylor C. The ball was put in play by Dareese W., then passed to
Taylor C., finally passed to Taylor K., who was near half court waiting for the ball so she
could dribble down the court at max speed to make a layup. Once Taylor K. got the ball
near half court, she was attacked by three of Moodys players at once! She was pushed
down by Moodys players and had to walk off the court. With two Holmans most
experienced players now on the bench, Holman was begging for a win to be
undefeated. Holmans Girls Basketball Team played the rest of the night, trying to not
let the pressure get to them.
Holman had a really close game and the end result was Holman 33 and Moody
34 . After that night, Taylor K. returned to practice the next day with a knee brace and
crutches. Carmen was looking better and luckily, Taylor K.s leg healed over the next
two-three days. We had a good game all around! Maddie K. had lots of lay-ups, Kaylee
T. was great at defending, Taylor C. was quick and a perfect ball handler. Overall, we
werent beat by points, we were defeated by the injuries, as Moody took out some of
our most experienced players, but HMS tried hard to recover with no point guard and a
center. We worked with our flaws and came out with a win in our book. In conclusion,
the HMS girls basketball team was pretty beat up with stress, injuries, and the pain of
loss, but we still were the top team with a seven out of eight games won.
