LESSON ACCOMMODATIONS
3.1 Lesson Content
The teacher must be able to count in groups.
3.2 Multiculturalism and Diversity
Scenario 1: Seth has difficulty paying attention during group instruction. He will
sit directly in front of the teacher for the lesson to help him focus.
Scenario 2: Sam and Sarah are ELL and this lesson may be difficult for them.
Sam and Sarah will be paired with a partner during guided practice for
assistance (Partners: Sam and Eric, Sarah and Lily). Sam and Sarah will not be
scored on the assignment, but the teacher will work with them during intervention
time to repeat the lesson in a small group for better understanding.

Set/Statement of Objective DAY 1 (Math Appeal)
Say: Today we will be learning about Greg Tang.
Display the Greg Tang tri-fold poster.
Read the biography out loud. Tell students that today were going to be reading
Math Appeal.
Read-Aloud DAY 1 (Math Appeal)
1. Read Math Appeal to the class.
2. Play the counting games in the book.
3. When finished reading, ask students what their favorite part was.

Activity DAY 1 (Math Appeal)


Take students to the computer lab.
Write www.gregtangmath.com on the board so students know which website to
go to.
Project your computer screen on the projector. Click on books in the top left
hand corner. Choose the book Math Appeal.
Model the first game for the students.
Let students play the games on their own.

Closure DAY 1 (Math Appeal)


1. Take students back to the classroom.
2. Draw nine circles on the board and ask students to turn to their partner and tell
them how many circles they counted.

Say: Today we will be reading another Greg Tang book.
Display the Greg Tang tri-fold poster.
Ask students to tell their partner something they remember about Greg Tang.
Tell students that today were going to be reading Math for All Seasons.

Activity DAY 3 (Math Fables Too)
1. Pass out the counting doubles worksheet (with fingers).
2. Model the first problem on the board.
3. Have students complete the worksheet in partners.
Closure DAY 3 (Math Fables Too)
1. Students turn in their worksheets (these are not graded, theyre just for checking
understanding).
2. Draw fourteen stars on the board and ask students to turn to their partner and tell
them how many stars they counted.
Set/Statement of Objective DAY 4 (The Grapes of Math)
Say: Today we will be reading another Greg Tang book.
Display the Greg Tang tri-fold poster.
Ask students to tell their partner something they remember about Greg Tang.
Tell students that today were going to be reading The Grapes of Math.
Read-Aloud DAY 4 (The Grapes of Math)
1. Read The Grapes of Math to the class.
2. Play the counting games in the book.
3. When finished reading, ask students what their favorite part was.
Activity DAY 4 (The Grapes of Math)
1. Pass out the counting grapes worksheet.
2. Model the first problem on the board.
3. Have students complete the worksheet individually (these will be graded).

Closure DAY 4 (The Grapes of Math)


1. Students turn in their worksheets for a grade.
2. Draw twenty grapes on the board and ask students to turn to their partner and tell
them how many grapes they counted.

ASSESSMENT (Use at the end of the week)


Method Written quiz (Counting Grapes Worksheet)
Students will complete a 12-question written quiz to assess their understanding of
the concept.
Criteria for Mastery 80 out of 100 possible points.
Intervention Plan Students who do not master the objective will work with the
teacher to review lines, line segments, angles, and rays. The teacher will work
with the two ELL students at this time as well.
