Thing 1 will help me assess my own readiness and identify personal goals

for improvement, explore and practice basic technology skills, and

become familiar with technology standards, pedagogical and
integration models, and frameworks that support them.

Students can add and resize pictures on a

computer document, presentation, or website.

Students can search the internet to find and

summarize information.

Students have a beginning understanding of

source credibility when searching for
information.

Students can integrate audio into a

presentation.

Students can create presentations using a

variety of applications for diverse audiences and
purposes.

Reflection: There are many areas that I myself can improve in, but at this
moment, I feel these are the sections that I believe students may struggle
with the most. Throughout these 21 Technology Modules, I hope to improve
my already existing technology skills, and also, to build on them.

The Basics Part 2: Technology Skills

1. Capturing a Screenshot

Reflection: Being able to capture a screenshot on a computer is very useful

because it is a simple way to show students multiple steps to an assignment
on a computer. To take a screenshot, hold Fn + Insert (Prt Sc), and then Ctrl
+ v to paste the image on any document.

2. Basic Browser Shortcuts

Bold entries denote previously unknown shortcuts
Shortcut 1: (ctrl + t) new tab
Shortcut 2: (ctrl + n; click, drag, drop tab) open new window
Shortcut 3: (ctrl + f) find on page
Shortcut 4: (ctrl +) zoom in
Shortcut 5: (ctrl -) zoom out
Shortcut 6: (ctrl p) print
Shortcut 7: (ctrl g) go to the address bar
Shortcut 8: (alt enter) keep current tab while typing a
new URL
Shortcut 9: (F5 or ctrl r) refresh page
Shortcut 10: (esc) stop action
Shortcut 11: (end key) jump to bottom of web page

3. Other Basic Shortcuts

Bold entries denote previously unknown shortcuts
Shortcut 1: (ctrl + c) copy
Shortcut 2: (ctrl + v) paste
Shortcut 3: Right click to select
Shortcut 4: Selecting text quickly
Shortcut 5: (ctrl + z) cut
Shortcut 6: (ctrl + y) redo
Shortcut 7: (ctrl + a) select all
Shortcut 8: (ctrl + k) hyper-link
Shortcut 9: (ctrl + s) save
Shortcut 10: F12 save as
Shortcut 11: (ctrl + mouse wheel) zoom in and zoom out
Shortcut 12: (ctrl + i) italic
Shortcut 13: (ctrl + b) bold
Shortcut 14: (ctrl + u) underline
Shortcut 15: (ctrl + Q) quit
Shortcut 16:
(ctrl + l) justify left
Shortcut 17:
(ctrl + e) justify center
Shortcut 18:

superscript
Shortcut 19: (ctrl + shift +)
Shortcut 20: (ctrl +) subscript
Shortcut 21: (ctrl + o) open
Shortcut 22: (ctrl + n) open new document
Shortcut 23: (ctrl + h) find and replace
Shortcut 24: (ctrl + L) bullet
Shortcut 25: (ctrl + m) adjust margin right
Shortcut 26: (ctrl + enter) page break

Reflection: There are many shortcuts that can be used in both web
browsers and word documents. Many of these shortcuts are new to me as I
am sure they are new to many people. Learning these shortcuts can help a
teacher put together assignments, handouts, etc. in a shorter amount of
time than it would if a teacher was not using these shortcuts. Personally, it
may take a lot of practice for me to get use to using these shortcuts so that
they become natural motions and cut back on the time it takes me to do an
assignment, presentation, or handout.

The Basics Part 3: Implementation

1. ISTE Teacher Standards
ISTE Standard: 1. Facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity.

Performance indicator(s) addressed: I selected a

Standard 1.a. Promote, support, and model creative and innovative
thinking and inventiveness.

My lesson description: I teach elementary music. While learning to

notate and recognize rhythm, my students use patting of the legs,
popsicle sticks, rhythm bingo games, passing games, and creating
their own rhythm lines to distinguish between the different rhythm
patterns.

Future Lesson: (target and describe an additional performance

indicator from that standard for a future lesson) Learning happens
inside the brain, not in the physical world. I would like to encourage
my students to write/speak/pat etc. new rhythm patterns using ways
that connect with the students. I want to encourage my students to
make the connection between the patting of a familiar song to the
rhythm that is being sung. My students should be able to feel
confident when decoding rhythms.

Standard: 1.c. Promote student reflection using collaborative tools to

reveal and clarify students conceptual understanding and thinking,
planning, and creative processes.

My Score/Reflection: At this point in my education, I would rate myself at

the developing stage based on the ISTE-Teacher Standards. I personally do
not use a lot of technology outside of Microsoft Word, Web Browsers,
LogicPro, and Finale. I am excited to learn and become aware of the different
uses for technology and how I can use technology in my classroom.

During class, students (2nd 3rd

grade) will sing pre-written
rhythms to the beat of
recorded music. Doing this will
assist the students in learning
how to keep at steady beat and
recognize what sound certain
rhythm patterns create.

Reflection: It is important to use several different approaches of teaching

for students to fully understand how music works. Music is visual,
kinesthetic, and auditory, so students need to experience all aspects of
music in every form (visual, kinesthetic and auditory) on a daily basis.
Because of the increase of technology, there are now more ways to approach
these different types of learning.

Final Reflection: Technology can help myself as a teacher for the

preparation that it takes to prepare a class, and technology can also help my
students learn at great heights than from ordinary teaching. I am looking
forward to learning about and using new forms of technology in my
classroom.
