Florida Senate proclaims April ‘Toastmasters Awareness month’


Marion County and City of Ocala to recognize Toastmasters week

(OCALA) March 31, 2010 – The month of April brings more than May flowers, it brings a shower
of recognition for Florida’s more than 10,000 members of Toastmasters International.
The Florida Senate has proclaimed April as “Toastmasters International Awareness Month” and in
Marion County, which has six Toastmasters clubs, the week of April 18-24 will be proclaimed
“Toastmasters Week” by the Board of County Commissioners and Ocala City Council.
The local proclamations are scheduled for presentation on April 20.
“This is really tremendous and the first time I know of that Toastmasters in Florida and in Marion
County has been honored this way,” said Maureen Quinlan, Division G-Area 73 governor and
charter member of Marion United Toastmasters, which celebrates its 100th meeting and second
anniversary in May.
Toastmasters International, founded 85 years ago, is the world’s leading organization assisting in
the development of communication and leadership skills. There are three Toastmasters Inter-
national districts in Florida serving more than 450 clubs including the Easy Speakers of Belleview;
Dunnellon Toastmasters; and Marion United, Ocala Noon, Talk of the World and the Triple
Crown club, all of Ocala.
