Murphy Writing of Stockton University Hosts Annual Winter Conference

GALLOWAY, NJ, November 24Murphy Writing of Stockton University will host its 23rd
Annual Winter Poetry & Prose Getaway at the historic Seaview Hotel in Galloway, NJ on
January 15-18, 2016. The weekend-long conference offers challenging and supportive
workshops in poetry, fiction, nonfiction, memoir and more.
The Winter Getaway has become one of the oldest and largest writers conferences in the winter
season, attracting more than 200 writers from across the country. This years faculty includes
Stephen Dunn, winner of the Pulitzer Prize in Poetry and Distinguished Professor Emeritus of
Creative Writing at Stockton University, and award-winning poet, Thomas Lux. Each will lead
special feedback sessions of Advanced Poetry Writing.
Writing is typically a solidary act, said Peter Murphy, founder of Murphy Writing. But when
writers come together in a supportive community that encourages them to push their boundaries,
they often experience breakthroughs.
The $495 tuition includes a 15-hour writing workshop and most meals. Attendees also have the
opportunity to participate in open mics, networking, sunrise yoga, and dancing at the Getaway
Disco, while enjoying writer camaraderie. Discounts are available for those who have attended

The Getaways are magical for writers who are beginners or advanced, in need of
encouragement or a kick-start, said Zoe Forney of Mays Landing, NJ. Dione Carroll, who
attends at least two Murphy Writing programs each year said, I get the chance to focus on the
things that are dearest to my heart alongside likeminded individuals. Theres nothing like it in
