Integration of Learning Outcomes

The students will be able to recognize numbers and quantities between one and
six through play.
The students will be able to correctly find the Lego with the corresponding
number rolled on the dice.
The students will be able to correctly order the Legos from one to six.
Standards
P.A.M.2.1.1 Use counting and numbers as a part of play and as a means for
determining quantity.

III.

Anticipatory Set
The teacher will activate students prior knowledge by using the flashcards. The
teacher will ask the students to count the number of dots on the front side of the
flashcard and then will show the number on the other side of the flashcard.

IV.

Procedures
Before the activity, the teacher will have the game set up.
The teacher will prepare the four sets of six Legos by numbering each set
one through six.
The teacher will prepare the anticipatory set flashcards.
The teacher will prepare the numbered Legos example.
The teacher will complete the anticipatory set with the students. The teacher will
first ask the students if they can count to six. The teacher will then hold up one
flash card at a time; the students must count the number of dots on the front side
of the flashcard, and when the number is determined, the teacher will show the
number on the other side of the flashcard.
The teacher will explain the directions to the students. The teacher will say
Today we are going to play a number game with one friend using Legos. The
first person will roll the dice. The number that is rolled is the number you must
find written on the Legos. Once you find the matching Lego, your turn is over.
The next person will complete the same steps. If you roll a number you already
have, you lose a turn. When you have all six Legos, you must put them in the
correct order. The goal is to roll all six numbers and get all six Legos in the
correct order first.
The students will begin playing the game.

V.

Differentiation
For more advanced students, an additional dice will be added along with
additional Legos numbered seven through twelve.

VI.

VII.

VIII.

IX.

For struggling students, the Legos will be labeled with the number of dots along
with the number.

Closure
The teacher and the students will look at the Lego towers and point to the blocks
as they count from one to six together, connecting the numbers name to the
written number as well as an overall quantity.
Formative/Summative Assessment
The students will be assessed with the attached rubric.
After the student rolls the dice, he or she will correctly find the Lego with
the corresponding number The teacher will determine the students
knowledge of numbers through their correspondence between the number
rolled on the dice and the number written on the Lego. The correct answer
will show the students knowledge of numbers while and incorrect answer
will show the student needs extra practice.
After finding all six Legos, the student will correctly put the Legos in
order from one to six The teacher will observe the ordering of the
Legos at the end of the game. The Legos being put in the correct order will
show the students number recognition and counting skills while the
incorrect order will show the student needs extra practice.
