Fromadolescentsto
adults,thesetyranniesaffecteveryone(antithesis).
Oneofthesetyranniesisthetyrannyamale
dominatedsociety.
Thisisasocietythatdegrades,discourages,anddevalueswomen
(alliteration).
Nooneshouldhavetofeelthisway.Thereisafacadethatsincewomenandmen
legallyhavethesamerights,thatweareequal.Legallythatmaybetrue,butinasocietalaspect,
thatisfarfromthefact.Womenlackequalityinfinance,respect,andsomanyotherimportant
aspectsinlife.
Financially,malesdominatewomenintheyearlyearnings.Accordingto
CNN
,on
averageintheUnitedStates,womenmake78centsforeverydollaramanmakes.Thisisa
commonknownfact,yetnooneistryingtochangeit.Why?
Whyarepeopleokaywiththisfact
(rhetoricalquestion)?
Girlshavebeengrowingupknowingaboutthiswagegapandthinking
thereisnothingtheycandotochangeit.
Wemustchangethiswayofthinking(imperative
sentence).
Ihavegrownsickofhearingpeople,bothmenandwomenalike,tellayounggirlthatshe
cantdosomethingbecauseitisamalesjob.Whetherthatissomethingassimpleasdoing
heavyliftingorsomethingmorecomplexsuchaschoosingacertaincareertopursue.
Everyone
hastheabilitytobesuccessful,buttheboxthatsocietyhasconfinedwomeninisfartoosmall

Itishardgrowingupandseeinggirlsallaroundme
stoppursuingsomethingtheylovetodobecauseofthewayotherpeoplereacttoit.Astudy
fromthe
NationalScienceFoundation
hasshownthatinfourthgrade,66%ofgirlsand68%of
boyswereinterestedinscience.Duetothestereotypicalexpectationthatonlymaleswere
scientists,theamountofgirlsinterestedinsciencedroppeddrasticallyandtheamountofboys
interesteddoubled.Thesestereotypesdiscouragegirlsintothinkingthattheycantpursuewhat
theyarepassionateabout.
Oneofmygoodfriends,anothergirl,isawrestler.Wrestlingiswhatmostpeople
consideramasculinesport.IrememberwhenIfirsttoldsomepeoplethatshestartedwrestling,
somepeoplewerehappyforher,andsomepeoplewereconcernedorshocked.Theyworriedthat
shewouldgethurtandtheyquestionedwhetherornotshecoulddoit.Ifmyfriendhadchosento
playvolleyball,whichisgenerallyconsideredamorefemininesport,peoplewouldnothave
questionedherchoicewhatsoever.Ididntunderstandwhyitwassohardforsomepeopleto
comprehendthatagirlcoulddoexactlywhataboywasdoingandhavenoquestionsasked.We
areinthe21stcentury,yetpeoplestillrelyonstereotypesasabackbonetotheirwayofthinking.
Stereotypesbetweenthesexesplayahugeroleinthewaypeopleslivescometobe.
The
stereotypethatwomenstayhome,andcleanthehouse,andtakecareofthekidswhiletheir
husbandsareatworkisoutdated,yetsomethingpeoplestillareinthemindsetof(polysyndeton).
Thisideadiscouragesgirlsintogoingoutintheworldandbeingwhotheytrulywanttobe.They
arestuckthinkingthattheirhusbandsaretheonlyoneswhocanhaveameaningfuloccupation
whiletheysitathome.Itisanunfairstereotypethatthemembersofthemaledominatedsociety
hasforcedusintobelievingin.

Irealizethatsomepeoplemaynotembracethisneedforchange.Somepeoplemay
opposemyargumentcompletelyandclaimthatthereisnothingwrongwiththedynamicsinour
society.
Theyhavetheirideas,andIhavemine(anaphoraandashortsentenceafterseveral
longerones).
Inowencourageyouall,bothmenandwomen,tochangethiswayoflife(direct
address).
Forattheendoftheday,
itisnotwhatwesaythatmatters,itiswhatwedo
(chiasmus).
Itisourjobtomakesurethatfuturegenerationsareawareoftheirpotential.
Everyonehastheequalcapabilitytobeanddosomethinggreat,sowemustbethegeneration
thatexemplifiesjustthat.
