Created by Commonwealth Act No. 186 passed on November 14, 1936. Mandated to provide and administer the following social security benefits for government employees: - compulsory life insurance - optional life insurance retirement benefits disability benefits for work-related contingencies death benefits It is also entrusted with the administration of the General Insurance Fund by virtue of R.A. 656 of the Property Insurance Law. It provides insurance coverage to assets and properties that have government insurable interests. Active GSIS members are entitled to the following loan privileges: salary loan, policy loan, and emergency loan. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Investment Companies These are issuers of securities primarily engaged in the business of investing or trading in securities. There are two types of investment companies: - The open-end company, also known as the mutual fund, is an investment company which is offering for sale or has outstanding redeemable securities of which it is the issuer. - The close company is a regulated investment company that issues a fixed number of shares which are listed on a stock market. The shares issued here are not redeemable. Examples of Investment Companies:

Securities Dealers and Brokers
Securities Dealer means any person who buys and sells securities for his/her own account in the ordinary course of business (for profit).
Securities Broker is a person engaged in the business of buying and selling
securities for the account of others (for commission).
