Vocabulary
Graphic Design: (commercial art)
the art or profession of visual
communication that com-bines
images, words, and ideas to convey
infor-mation to an audience,
especially to produce a specific
effect.
Composition: the placement or
arrangement of visual elements or
ingredients in a work of art, as
distinct from the subject of a work.
(rule of thirds, golden ratio, grid
alignment
Bounding Box: A rectangle with
handles that appears around an
object or type and can be used to
change dimensions also called a
trans-form box. To scale something
in proportion and to retain the
correct aspect ratio holding the
shift key while dragging from one of
the corner points of the bounding

box keeps the dimensions

constrained.

PDF (portable document format): a

document format that allows for the
reading and writing of multi-page
documents or articles. Its possible to
keep the same format, layout, and fonts
of a document across any computer
setup. A free software program like Adobe Acrobat is needed to read PDFs. PDFs
are a good way to write eBooks, articles,
and also serve as a good way to show
images.
Elements of Art and Design: (San

Space, Texture
Resolution: The detail of an image is
based on how many pixels (dots) are
included in 1 square inch of space. The
more pixels included in that space, the
higher the resolution. Computer
monitors use no more than 72 pixels per
inch, so going higher is pointless.
However a minimum of 300 dots per
inch is usually recommended for
printing.

History

Vincent Connare
Vincent Connare designed Comic Sans in 1995, for children.
Many years later, the font got popular with people in all ages.
Except for graphic designers, they love to hate the font.
