When Harry Potter finds out he is a famous wizard, his life dramatically changes for the
better. Harry Potter is a main character in J.K. Rowlings Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone.
In the story, Harry learns about the wizarding world and leaves his neglectful relatives home, to
go to school at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harrys parents were killed when
he was an infant by a dark wizard called Voldemort, who becomes a threat later in the story.
Harry quickly becomes a hero due to his complex character. Throughout the tale, he shows
many traits, but Harrys three boldest attributes are that he is daring, tenacious, and solicitous.
First of all, Harry is daring. In the midst of the book, when the first year students are in
their second week at Hogwarts, Harry demonstrates his valiant instincts during his first flying
lesson. No! shouted Hermione Granger. Madam Hooch told us not to move - youll get us all
into trouble. Harry ignored her. Blood was pounding in his ears. He mounted the broom and
kicked hard against the ground (148). Even though Madam Hooch specifically told the
students not to fly on their broomsticks, Harry risked his school career to get Nevilles
Remembrall from Malfoy.
As the reader gets to know Harry, it becomes clear that he is tenacious. Ive found
him! he whispered. Ive found Flamel! I told you Id read the name somewhere before, I read
it on the train coming here (219). Harry, Ron, and Hermione had been looking for the name
Nicolas Flamel and did not give up until they found him. This trait of persistence helps Harry

win his fight not only with Malfoy, but also with Professor Quirrell, whose body is housing
Voldemort.
Harrys third overpowering attribute is that he is solicitous. He always thinks about the
welfare of others and takes action to ensure everyones safety. Ive just thought - Hermione.
What about her? She doesnt know about the troll. (173). Hermione was in the bathroom,
crying after Ron had said something mean to her. Harry thought of the danger Hermione might
be in and initiated a rescue.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone is a wonderful story due largely to Harry Potters
three bold attributes of daring, tenacity, and solicitude. This strong character engages the reader
into his life and his fight for justice. The reader roots for Harry to overcome his loneliness from
being orphaned so young, empathizes as he learns the reason for the scar on his forehead, and is
exhilarated as Harry embraces the exciting world of wizardry. It is no surprise that this book
sparked a whole series of books.
