Dear Buckingham Senior Portfolio Comittee,

I am a senior in high school writing this letter to earn the approval of the Senior Portfolio
Comittee in order to fulfill Buckinghams graduation requirements. Upon graduation of high
school I will embark on an adventure across three continents to do mission work. When I return,
I plan to pursue a career in business with a focus on either non-profits or cross-cultural studies.
I have learned more than the necessary skills required for high school graduation. I have
worked incredibly hard, challenged myself academically, volunteered in my community and
church, thrived in with part-time job, and learned civic responsibility in my church and social
groups. To prepare for my future during high school I have visited colleges, researched
academic programs, explored and discovered my interests through travel and volunteer work. I
also worked very hard to complete all of my assignments and have always tried my hardest. I
took two English classes and one History class at Solano Community College in order to get
ahead in my college credit and challenge myself academically.
Buckingham has created a tight-knit atmosphere for me to grow in. My teachers have inspired
and prepared my for the real world by truly caring about my well-being. They have also
supported me during a time of tragedy in my life. I have made many supportive and close
friendships. Buckingham has allowed me a flexible schedule me to take classes at Solano
Community College. The BCAL program has also allowed me a flexible schedule, helping me
take College Courses and have a job in order to raise money for my 9 month long mission trip. I
have respected and become close with most of my teachers. I am extremely driven, motivated,
organized and hard-working. I believe that not matter how smart you are academically, as long
as you are motivated and hard-working you can succeed in whatever you do. These are
reasons why I believe I am ready for a post-secondary education. I have taken four years of
Spanish, I have been a member of the National Honor Society for three years, and received
High Honors each year of high school.
After graduation, I will launch on a 9-month long mission trip with a non-profit organization called
Adventures in Missions, through their program, The World Race: Gap Year. I will leave in August
2016 and spend three months in each of the following countries- The Balkans, The Philippines
and South Africa. I must raise around $14,000 for this trip.
I anticipate your approval of my Portfolio and look forward to graduation and the beginning of
the next chapter of my life. Thank you for you time and consideration.
