Part 1: Assessment Technology (150-250 words).

Please login to https://www.edmodo.com/home#/ using the Group code h2xkbn and take
the Nouns, Verbs, Adverbs, Adjectives, Conjunctions quiz. This quiz will test your knowledge
on the definitions of each area. This will be for a grade and quizzes are 20% of your final grade
in this class.
This will be used as a summative assessment and the purpose of these quiz is to let the
teacher see how much the students know about each section in order to help throughout entire
class. This lets the teacher see where she needs to work with the students and how much time to
spend on this particular area.

Part 2: Blog Post
Introduction:
Technology assessment is a strong use for classroom learning today. It can help the
teacher teach on different levels and use formative or summative to teach students. Even though
there are pros and cons to using technology, it is extremely vital for the student and the teacher
alike. Technology is used in everything we do now and students should start learning about it as
soon as possible. This not only helps the student in class, but it keeps them ahead in an ever
changing world of technology.
Technology to Facilitate Ongoing Efforts to Assess Student Learning
Technology is a big part of the classroom. Instead of using different types of technology
like televisions, projectors, or other technological devices to help teach a subject; the teachers
use IPads or laptops. These devices are connected to a Promethean board. This lets the teacher

pull up any App or website and teach the class. Everything is done through a laptop and projects
on the screen. The teacher is also able to mark on the screen with the touch of their hand or a
special pen device to show how to work problems. This takes place of having to incorporate
different items to use in the classroom and gives the teacher the ability to have it all at their
fingertips.

Virtual Classrooms
Virtual classrooms is a great way for many people to attend school who may not
otherwise get to attend. Virtual classrooms such as Moodle or Blackboard allow students to
attend class online rather than having to travel to a school and be in an actual classroom setting.
This is great for people who work full time, parents, or those with disabilities that permit them
from traveling. People can still continue their education and earn a degree from home as well as
those who travel to the school. This will help those that need it succeed in life and achieve their
dreams.
Wordpress
Wordpress is software that allows students to create websites, blogs, or apps. Teachers
could benefit from this by teaching students to create their own websites and to blog about their
school or other ideas. For instance a teacher could have a student write a blog each week in their
ELA class instead of writing in a journal. The teacher could let the student write about whatever
they wanted to or give them a list to choose from. This would let the teacher see how the student
writes and what they need to improve upon. This also helps the student learn to be creative and

helps them with their writing, and learn how to use technology themselves. Plus the student
could continue on with their own blog even after the class is over.
Software for Kids
Software for kids allows you to look at software for children at all ages. However, it
should really be used for younger children. This software usually has games on it and these
games, unlike video games, teach the kids. It can help with reading, math, typing skills, the
understanding of science. This type of software engages kids of a younger age minds and they
learn without feeling like theyre being taught a lesson. This gets them more interested and
engages their minds more. The teacher can assess the childs learning needs and get them to the
correct game or software they need to help them in that particular area.

Formative and Summative Assessments

Formative assessment is when monitoring students learning through ongoing feedback to
improve a students learning. This helps a student identify their strengths and weaknesses and
what areas they need to improve upon and address those problems immediately.
Summative assessment evaluates a students learning at the end of a unit by comparing
against standardized or benchmark testing. There is a higher point value system with summative
assessment versus formative assessment.
Using the virtual classroom can be used in either formative or summative assessments
depending on the class you are taking at the time. Wordpress and other software for kids is more
formative because youre seeing how each individual child is doing.
Formative and summative assessments can be used in many different areas with teaching and
using technology in the classroom and can be used with each assessment in a positive way.

Pros and Cons of using Technology to Facilitate Assessment (200 words)

The best thing about technology is the fact that it is used everywhere and the sooner a
student can start learning about technology the better they will be. Technology allows you to
have the world at your fingertips and allows you the knowledge to look up whatever you need
whenever you need to. It cuts down on the need for so many books and papers and students to
have to keep up with all the paperwork and turn it in. The teachers can have assignments sent
directly to them and they can go online anywhere and check a students work or progress at any
time. This also helps the teachers from having to keep up with a lot of paperwork. They can file
anything they need into folders on their computers. Students having IPads is great because they
can use them in each class and do their assignments for each class on them. They can just
download the Apps they need for each teacher and have everything with them all the time. The
teachers can email the students assignments or anything they may need to know for their class
the next day. This also comes in handy for the administrators as well. They can get in touch
with any student for reminders or anything they need to tell them through email.
The biggest con of technology is when the technology fails. Like when the internet goes
down or computers crash. If there is a storm or a power surge the internet can go down.
Technology not working right is a big issue. You also have students who may forget to charge
their electronic devices or they may not have internet at home. In communities that are a high
poverty level not having internet at home becomes a big issue.
Should a teacher only use technology to assess student learning? Why or why not?
Technology is a big deal to stay in touch with the world and how it is advancing in
technology all the time, but it is important that a teacher sometime have the students do hand

written work. It is important so that the student knows how to write or how to do things if the
technology is down or available at the time.
What is the importance of assessment technology in connection with the ISTE standards?
It is important because it can give you advances in the classroom and different Apps or
websites can help you track achievement while promoting learning. ISTE standards wants
students to be creative, in communication with the teacher, researching as much as they can on
their own, use critical thinking and problem solving skills. With technology being at your
fingertips to help the student, the student should learn a lot on their own and be advanced.

Concluding Paragraph for Software to Support Assessment
Technology is important in the classroom for many different reasons. It helps with
formative or summative assessments. By using technology for these types of assessments you
can where students stand either by learning where their strengths are or by grading them. You
can follow ISTE standards for students to help keep them in tune with their learning and how to
challenge them creatively. Assessment technology helps you see which websites or Apps can
help you better teach students to help them be successful in their education. Even though there
are many pros and cons to facilitating technology in a classroom, it is something students need to
start learning as soon as possible. Technology is everywhere and the sooner one starts using it,
the better off they will be.
