Manifestations of Pride:

Being Sarcastic, Hurtful, or Degrading

“There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings
healing.” Proverbs 12:18

Perhaps you remember a time when you encountered a bully or know of someone who has.
Maybe you were the bully growing up as a child. Maybe you even remember the student that was the
nominee for “class clown.”The truth is children that pick on other manifest pride in this way. They can
be very hurtful and sometimes dangerous. Even though they only seem to be sarcastic, joking and
simply having so called fun.

I personally remember a time when I was in the Navy. There were two individuals that always
stuck together. They always seemed to have jokes, and at times those jokes where very inappropriate.
They usually seem to gain up on certain individuals and just pick on people. They even constantly joked
with each other sometimes in a hurtful way. They spoke degrading jesters about woman and black
people. They eventually got into some big trouble and later got kicked out of the Navy.

A proud person that manifests this kind of pride can be very unkind people. They joke more than
what is appropriate and can make fun, tease, pick on people and even hurt people. They usually excuse
themselves and claim it is just the way they are and they really don’t mean anything wrong. They say
that they’re just trying to have some fun.

“A prudent man conceals knowledge, but the heart of fools proclaims folly.” Proverbs 12:23
