G. Introduction :
Vegetable gardening is a very rewarding endeavour. Ideally, this activity is
undertaken in school to support school program needs and use vacant site and available
resources to the fullest.
In 2007, DepEd released Memo # 293 Gulayan sa Paaralan encouraging increase
public awareness in health and nutrition especially among pupils, teachers and parents. The
following year, Dep Ed Memo # 234, s 2008, which encouraged the planting of malunggay
(moringa) trees in school was issued by then Secretary of Education Jeslie Lapuz which
complemented Gulayan sa Paaralan. Malalinta Elementary School sustains these
initiatives as it adopts containerized gardening and developed malunggay park. As a result,
the said school garnered second and third place in the competition on the best implementer
of Gulayan sa Paaralan and classroom gardening respectively. This is a search launched by
the district in partnership with the Department of Agriculture (municipal level).
In this light, the implementer embarked on an income generating project as a means
of maintaining and sustaining the program. Most importantly funds were raised for the
procurement of instructional materials, specifically educational DVDs to enhance pupils
learning and printer which is used for the reproduction of activity sheets and downloaded
materials from the internet for the different subjects.

are digested. Vegetables are also claimed to be a powerhouse of nutritional values. Hence,
this Income Generating Project awaken the consciousness of the pupils in the effect of
having a healthy dietary intake.
In the marketing of the produce, the pupils maintained their grouping in the school
garden. Each group harvested their own fruits/vegetable at 7:00-7:30 in the morning and

of the project, thus the Grade VI class was able to buy educational DVD which enhances
pupils learning, photocopying materials and a printer which is used for the production of
activity sheets and downloaded materials from the internet for the different subjects.
B. Technical Description
The project is located at Malalinta Elementary School, Malalinta San Manuel
Isabela. The seeds will be taken from the harvest of the last planting season and the
rest will be bought outside.
C. Organizational Management
The project is headed by the adviser with the support of the pupils and HRPTA members.
The cost of the project is shown in Table B.
M. Summary
The Income Generating Project entitled Veggie for IMs: Vegetable Production as Fund Source
for Instructional Materials of Grade VI Class of Malalinta Elementary School has been a success.
It has also become a laboratory of learning for the teacher and the pupils, the parents and the
barangay officials are inspired to have their own garden at home and the community park. Funds
were raised in the procurement of the instructional materials, DVD and printer. All the grades and
Teachers are supportive of this project and an evaluation of the Gulayan sa Paaralan in school-based
was conducted twice to sustain the program.
N. Conclusions
The IGP is a showcase of hardwork by the adviser, pupils and parents. This will be a
continuing program for Grade VI pupils in the succeeding years as shown by the result of the
harvest.
O. Recommendations

It is recommended that another grade can also conduct an income generating project using
containerized gardening if space does not warrant vegetable planting.

The adviser while conducting a meeting with the parents informing them about
the income generating project of Grade VI.
