WHY? (why is this lesson relevant to the learning outcomes above and at this time?)
Student will have a chance to use a traditional art form of Gyotaku fish print from Japan to create a unique
piece of visual art. Students will explore how another culture creates art out of natural resources available to
them. Our class will gaining an understanding of how these Gyotaku prints are practical used in Japanese
culture.

4. Lesson Layout
Introductions (the hook or lead up to the lesson)

I do: Bring student to the carpet. We will be reviewing the write up on Gyotaku fish print. I will now show the
class the examples of the fish prints. The class will now make our way to the back table where we will be doing
a demo of how to apply paint to the fish. I will also show all students how to place the paper on the fish for the
rubbing.
We do: As a class we will review what Gyotaku fish print is. We will review expectations and answer any
questions that may come up. 15 minutes

Body (break down of step by step instructions for lesson)


We do: A small group of students and myself will be going into another room to do the students own Gyotaku
print. We will be reviewing the technique of how to apply the paint to the fish.
Students do: Students will have a chance to work independently on their prints. Students will have the chance to
do multiple prints if they wish.
Students will be asked to place their painting in the hall on newspaper to let them dry. Students will be asked to
clean up their area before heading back to the classroom. Students will be capturing the calm when they return
to class.

students)
We do: As a class we will be wrapping up before students get ready to go home by talking about our experiences
with Gyotaku prints we have done.
