Lesson Objectives:
EES-ID.1-2 Given data, construct a simple graph (table, line, pie, bar, or picture) and
answer questions about the data
EES-ID.3 Indicate general trends on a graph or chart
Statement of Procedure:
Introduce graphs and explain what a graph is and what it does. We will start with a
picture graph. Show an example of a picture graph, explain different aspects of a
picture graph (what each item means, how to make comparisons, how to count a
picture graph, etc). Analyze the graph and discuss specific points. Use the
graphing ipad app to also show examples and ask questions regarding picture
graphs. Student will be asked to complete a packet of picture graphs and answer
analysis questions. Once student comprehends picture graphs fully, he will create a
picture graph. Student will ask other students in the classroom to choose a
manipulative (in this case, frogs) that matches their favorite colors. The students
will place these frogs on a chart and once the data collection has been complete, we
will analyze the graph.
