IMAGE SENSOR The quality of digital photographs can be measured in several ways. Pixel count is presumed to correlate with spatial resolution. The quantity of picture elements (pixels) in the image sensor is usually counted in millions and called "megapixels" ACMOS image sensor is a type of image sensor tech- nology inside digital cameras, consisting of an inte- grated circuit that records an image. The complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) sensor consists of millions of pixel sensors, each of which includes a photodetector. As light enters the camera through the lens, it strikes the CMOS image sensor, which causes each photode- tector to accumulate an electric charge based on the amount of light that strikes it. The digital camera then converts the charge to a digi- tal reading, which determines the strength of the light measured at each photodetector, as well as the color. The software used to display photos converts those readings into the individual pixels that make up the photo when displayed together. MOS uses a slightly different technology from CCD, which is another type of image sensor found in digital cameras. canon CMOS: 0s 4000 Sony CCD Nikon 03x Both CCD (charge-coupled device) and CMOS (complementary metal-oxide semiconductor) image sensors start at the same point -- they have to convert light into electrons. Sensor Size Comparison The large sensors in DSLRs and medium-format digital cameras generally have larger photosites, Medium Format which collect more light and therefore are generally more sensitive than their diminutive counterparts in compact digital cameras. false 96x20 pest APS-C (Canon) Malem Fal Fame 2.2.x 14.8mm Four Thirds
