Introduction

According to Carl Sagan it is very very probable that life exists on planets other than
Earth (2014). The term UFO is an Acronym for Unidentified Flying Object which is defined as
an aerial or celestial phenomenon detected either by direct visualization or by radar and its nature
is not immediately understood (Carl Sagan 2014). The more common thought of type of UFO is
one of extraterrestrial origin, these UFOs are often times described as having or being
accompanied by flashing lights or glowing with a silvery cast, their shapes include disk, cigar, or
ball shaped and their movement has been described in many completely different ways such as
rapidly or hovering, and moving silently or noisily (Carl Sagan 2014). Some physiologists
believe that the belief in UFOs were created from the minds of people who have unfulfilled
questions that UFOs would make sense in answering, such as unfulfilled religious needs where
aliens serve as the gods that science has disposed of (Carl Sagan 2014).

Incidents
On June 24, 1947 the existence of UFOs entered public consciousness.(David Jacobs
2014) An American pilot was flying over Washington D.C. when he claimed to have spotted 9
circular objects crossing his flight path the pilot stated that they looked like saucers skipping
over water (simile) (David Jacobs 2014). After this incident more and more sightings started
popping up all over the world (David Jacobs 2014), of course it could just be the public being
paranoid, or, the incident could have opened the eyes of the people who never took the time to
notice objects like these before.
Strangely during WWII both the allied and axis sides reported to have seen UFOs (David
Jacobs 2014).When interviewed the pilots said that they spotted strange metallic like objects they
called foo fighters flying in controlled flight around their aircraft (David Jacobs 2014). A

significant amount of unexplained reports of these foo fighters still exists today (David Jacobs
2014).
In 1947 an Unidentified Flying Object crashed in the desert in the SouthWest corner of
New Mexico near a city known as Roswell (Olmsted 2009). This incident was named the
Roswell UFO incident. According to Olmsted, after a spike in intrest in the Roswell incident the
Military tried to cover up and tell the public that the crash was just a weather balloon, so the
incidents publicity died down because since when has the government ever lied about
something? (rhetorical question)(2009).
In 1953 in Kingman Arizona an Unidentified Flying Object crash landed, according to
engineer Bill Uhouse 4 EBEN (extraterrestrial biological entities) survived (Linda Howe 2014).
2 of the EBEN were disabled and were taken to an unspecified medical facility (Linda Howe
2014). These events eventually lead to the project in which Bill Uhouse had to work on creating
a flight simulator for a saucer with the help of J-Rod the EBE (Linda Howe 2014). according to
Bill Uhouse J-Rod was the technical advisor to the flight simulator project in area 51 where
Uhouse worked, J-Rod was reported to be 200 years old and was suffering from cell
deterioration (Linda Howe 2014). Not much else is known about J-Rod.

Investigations
Studying UFO reports officials have tried to link the amount of fake reports to a specific
economic class, racial class or educational class but the studies were unsuccessful even though
officials did happen to find that more sightings are reported in rural areas than in urban areas
(David Jacobs 2014).Officials also tried to link sightings to hysterical contagion or societal
stressbut have been unsuccessful as well (David Jacobs 2014). Though most UFO reports have
been classified as natural occurring by being classified as unconventional aircraft, aircraft under

uncommon weather conditions, aircraft with unusual external light patterns, meteorological and
other high-altitude balloons, artificial satellites, flocks of birds, reflections of searchlights or
headlights off clouds, reflection of sunlight from shiny surfaces, luminescent organisms, mirages,
lenticular cloud formations, ball lightning, sundogs, meteors, planets, bright stars, or aurora
borealis (Carl Sagan 2014), a small percentage remains unexplained by any officials (David
Jacobs 2014).
Substantial public concern was expressed by the public in 1952 when UFOs were spotted
over Washington D.C. (Carl Sagan 2014). They became concerned as if they were being attacked
(allusion). November of that same year the government expressed concern as well by creating a
special government panel known as the Robertson panel to investigate UFO reports (Carl Sagan
2014). After a long time of examining and working on investigating everything UFO, the
Robertson panel concluded that all reports were probably just natural phenomena wrongly
interpreted (Carl Sagan 2014).
In New Mexico a Harvard meteor project was conducted between 1954 and 1958 (Carl
Sagan 2014). the project used photographic observations with super-schmidt cameras that had a
60 degree field of view, a surface view of about 3,000 square miles, observed to a height of about
50 miles for a total of 3,000 hours(Carl Sagan 2014). The project detected objects almost as faint
as the faintest objects visible to the human eye, these observations were studied by professional
astronomers and were for a time characterized by extensive reports of unidentified flying objects
(Carl Sagan 2014).

Hypothesis
It is highly probable that life exists on other planets (Carl sagan 2014). There is evidence
that many of the stars in the sky have planetary systems much like Earth's. Research concerning

the origin of life on Earth suggests that the physical and chemical process leading to the origin of
life occur rapidly in the early history of the majority of planets. (Carl Sagan 2014).It is probable
that life exists on other planets (Carl Sagan 2014). Today astronomers believe that around 1
million exoplanets in our own galaxy, the Milky Way, are home not only to life but to technical
civilizations in advance to our own (Carl Sagan 2014). According to Carl Sagan it is probable
that life exists on other planets (repetition)(2014). With growing discoveries on biological
organisms on our own Earth we know that there are organisms that can survive in extreme
conditions so it is possible for life to be sustained in a wider range of exoplanets or even moons
(Carl Sagan 2014) such as one orbiting Jupiter with frozen oceans. According to Carl Sagan,
even though interstellar manned space travel is far beyond our present day technological
capabilities, there seem to be no physical obstacles that make it impossible (2014) therefore if
interstellar space travel is possible then there is a very high chance that other advanced
civilizations have been able to develop this technology and are now able to visit other planets
such as Earth (Carl Sagan 2014).

Conclusion
As you can see extraterrestrial life on other planets is highly probable (Carl Sagan 2014).
There are multiple incidents where credible sources all over the world report sightings of what
they believe to be are UFOs. Though many cases of UFO sightings come from credible sources
many of those sightings are just proven to be mistaken natural incidents not extraterrestrials. Still
there are incidents where even with the technology we have today and professional scientists still
dont know how to explain. Even the most important scientists in our age such as Carl Sagan
believe that advanced extraterrestrials are out there, and are possibly visiting us.
