In What Ways Does Your Media Product Use, Develop or Challenge
Forms and Conventions of Real Products? Section A Crazy Music Video | A2 Coursework
1) A shot that shows a link between lyrics and/or music and
visuals In this shot we have Jamal acting as Gnarls Barkley (Cee Lo Green). We have overlapped a shot of Jamal dancing onto another shot of Jamal singing the lyrics of the song; this matches the visuals and the rhythm of the song. Majority of the video is amplifying the lyrics.
2) A shot that typifies the way a record company would want
their artist to be represented In this shot we have Jamal smiling, this is extremely important as we want Jamal to be portrayed as a happy character in this particular shot; this therefore gives us the ability to alter Jamals emotions during the song. This way the audience will have developed a connection with him. In the music video Jamal is actually portrayed as someone with a mental disorder and we hope the audience can relate to this.
3) A shot that illustrates how your video uses music genre
In this shot we have Jamal going crazy; in this shot we let him act how he wanted to portray himself in the music video. Due to society he has to keep his true self locked away from the public. This is a link to the soul music genre due to the fact that they sing about their true feelings/problems as they are unable to express them in a conversation. So they express their feelings through music which they can share with the world.
4) A shot that shows an intertextual reference (an image we
have seen in another text already a Film, TV Show or other Music Video) This is an extremely stationary long shot of three characters, two of which play minor roles who are conversing about Jamal and then Jamal (main character) is singing to the camera. This is seen in a majority of music videos because it helps establish the dominant character in the video.
5) A shot the demonstrates your use of camera
In this shot we have Jamal going crazy in the corner of the infinity wall which occurs predominantly throughout the music video. The camera skills that are demonstrated in these shots show close ups of Jamal running his hands over his face and smudging paint all over himself. The colours on his face are meant to represent a multitude of mental disorders.
6) A shot that demonstrates your use of lighting
In this shot Jamal is scene standing in front of the infinity wall. This medium shot of Jamal shows our use of lighting and how we have managed to make Jamal stand out a lot more in the shot.
7) A shot the demonstrates your use of mise-en-scene
I have chosen this particular shot to show our use of mise-en-scene because in this shot we have a line of symmetry down the middle (3 people each side of Jamal). Everyone in the shot is either wearing a hoody or a jacket, this represents the fashion of todays youth; also the location of the shot shows that its taking placing in a classroom.
8) Two shots which you feel demonstrate something which
shows that you have watched other music videos In these two shots we feel this demonstrates that we have a watched a lot of music videos due to our use of over editing. Quite a few of music videos do this because it plays with the audiences emotions due to the multiple visual effects. This is why in some shots we have but filters on them to make them more visually pleasing to the viewers eye. In our music video our filters have a more deeper meaning; warmer filters means Jamal is happy whereas the colder filters implies that Jamal is depressed, feeling alone etc.
