Happy Birthday Vina!

We were WET!
Please pack extra socks and mitts.
Weve noticed a rash of trips by certain students to the
fountain. Please pack a water bottle for your child.
In Language: We signed in to practice pencil grip and letter formations in our
name. We read the book OWL MOON and used it for rhyming, sequencing, writing
and comprehension activities. We continued using morning messages to practice
concepts of print and SIGHT WORDS. We learned 4 new sight words : he, we, she
and the. We practiced the 11 sight words to date. We continued with our Jolly
Phonics and, in preparation for the wedding of the school year, we learned the
letter name and sounds of Qq.
We continued with Mystery names.

Alvina and Molly each presented a book talk. Alvina used the book I LIKE ME and
Molly used TEENY TINY ANIMALS. Excellent jobs ladies!
Gym: We worked on balancing and jumping/landing in preparation for gymnastics.
Religion: We saw signs of God in the facts we learned about owls, the moon, snow,
and we celebrated A Blast of Winter all day Friday.
Science: We studied the owl and learned new facts about it. We also learned a bit
about the moon and going owling.
In Art: Miss Angenent introduced how to make snowflakes by cutting paper. The
children were also able to make snowflakes out of glue and rice. We discussed tints
and shades, lighter and darker. They explored tints and shades by mixing colours
with white and black and doing a cooperative painting.
In Music, Drama and Dance: Miss Angenent continues with Musical Lunches and
dance parties. The children listened to a video and discussed how the music
changed with the tints and shades.
In Mathematics: We continued the 100 days of school.adding fish to our
fishbowl and straws to our collection. We counted by 1,2,5, and 10. We continued
using dot plates to quickly identify and count numbers 1 -10 and we began using 10frames. We learned to tell time to the hour.
In Personal and Social Development: We had several talks about hands-on play.
It is not allowed at school. Hands-on includes grabbing your friends coat and
twirling them so they fall to the ground, it includes pushing and shoving in the snow,
it includes pushing on the snowhill, it includes wrestling outside at lunch. Mr.
Santandrea has made it clear that hands-on behaviours go home. They are not
welcome at school.
In Inquiry/Directed Play: We had 1 Roots of Empathy visit. Mrs. Krug discussed
emotions with the children some of the stories about why certain children were
happy or sad were hilarious were SURE Mrs. Krug will be back!

Miss Angenent made the water in the water table black after a discussion of how
owls see at night. She facilitated several activities : the children made toilet paper

Other activities included fine motor and vocabulary development.
