Monitoring of Light
Intensity and Cloud Cover

Objectives
To

study the functionality of

light intensity meters
To perform monitoring of
physical quantities and data
analysis.

Significance
Light intensity and cloud
coverage are indicators of
humidity
and
atmospheric
temperature. Knowing these
quantities
is
especially
significant in industries like
agriculture and transportation.

Cloud Cover
Measurement
The

pictures of the cloud

coverage was taken when the
light intensity was measured.
The pictures were divided into
eight sections, cloud cover was
measured in oktas.

Day 27AM
Sky completely
cloudy
8 Oktas

Day 1 9AM
7 Oktas

Day 112PM
Sky completely
cloudy
8 Oktas

Day1 3PM
6 Oktas

Day1 6PM
Sky is totally
obscured

Day 27AM

Day 29AM
7 Oktas

Day 212PM
3 Oktas

Day 2 3PM
7 Oktas

Day 26PM
Sky is totally
obscured

Functionality of SPER
Scientific 840021
Range

is limited, there are light

intensities that this sensor cannot detect
(at 12 PM of both Day 1 and 2, readings
exceed 2000).

Easy

to use, does not need external

devices unlike the TI Light Probe

Display

digits

of readings are in very large

Functionality of Vernier Light

Probe
Wider

sensing range than the other

sensor

Not

very convenient to use, needs

external device to operate

Not

very user-friendly, user needs

basic knowledge of LabQuest device
operation

Conclusions
Light

intensity detected by the light

meters is largely affected by amount
of cloud cover.

TI

Vernier Light Probe more accurate

readings

SPER

Scientific 840021 easier to use
