TRANSFORMERS:

1. A single phase transformer has 400-primary and 100-secondary turns. The net cross
sectional area of core is 60-cm2. If the primary is connected to a 50-Hz, 500-V source,
calculate (a) the peak value of flux density in the core (b) the voltage induced in the
secondary winding.
2. In a two winding isolation transformer having turn ratio 1:1 the winding parameters of
either coils are R1= 1.0- and L1=1.5-mH. Determine equivalent circuit of the
transformer. The core loss resistance is 680- and magnetizing reactance at 50-Hz is
5000- is assumed to be negligible.

3. A 100-kVA, 2200/220-V star-star three-phase 50Hz transformer bank has an iron loss of
1500-W and a copper loss of 3000-W at full load. Determine the efficiency of the
transformer for 75 % full-load at 0.8-power factor.
DC MACHINES:
1. A two-pole DC shunt motor operates from a constant supply voltage of 220-V. The total
current fed in 25-A and the excitation current is 1.25-A. The simple lap winding has 500
conductors and flux is 20-mWeber. If the machine efficiency is 0.87 and the armature
resistance is 0.30-. Calculate the motor speed and the useful torque.
2. A 500-kW, 500-V, 6-pole DC generator has a lap connected armature with 90 slots and 6
conductors per slot. Estimate the number of turns required on each inter pole if the
effective inter pole air gap is 1.2-cm and the flux density in air gap under the inter pole is
0.3-Wb /m2
3. Determine the value of torque exerted by an armature of 6-pole motor having 800
conductors, two parallel paths. The flux per pole is 0.02-Wb and total current is 20-A.
4. A 10-pole armature is having 1500 conductors and 8 number of parallel path. The flux
per pole is 0.8-Wb. The armature is rotating at 500-RPM.
