2016 Livingston & Haven MGE Design Competition

Overview:
In groups of no more than four, students will research and prepare their
designs during the spring semester. Students will be given the
opportunity to present their designs to a panel of judges who will
determine a final winner that day.
Eligibility & Requirements:
There is no cost to participate in the L&H MGE Design Competition.
Keep in mind the following guidelines and requirements when
submitting an entry:
1. Designs must be original and contain at least one extruded
aluminum (MGE) component.
2. Designs cannot include pneumatic or electronic components.
3. Design teams must be no more than 4 students.
Details:
During presentation with L&H and Bosch Rexroth, three winning
designs will be selected: 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
The 1st place design winners will each receive a $100 Visa Gift
Card.
2nd and 3rd place design winners will each receive a $50 Visa Gift
Card.
A panel of independent judges chosen by Livingston & Haven
and Bosch Rexroth shall select winners.
Winners will be notified immediately following the competition.
Entry into the competition constitutes permission to use the
entrants design and his, her, or its name, likeness, and affiliation
for promotional purposes without further compensation.
All entries received shall become the property of Livingston &
Haven.
Selection Criteria:
The object of the Livingston & Haven Aluminum Extrusion Design
Competition is to recognize product or component designs that utilize

Bosch Rexroth Aluminum Extrusion. Winning designs will be those that


best demonstrate the benefits of Bosch Rexroth extruded aluminum.
Presentations will be judged on how well the teams demonstrate the
design and manufacturing advantages of extruded aluminum.
Suggestions:
1. Creativity: Be creative and inventive! We are looking for new and
resourceful uses for aluminum extrusion.
2. Practicality: Designs should be cost-effective, easy to fabricate
and assemble. Participants should think about how the product is
improved by using extruded aluminum over other materials.
3. Market Impact/Potential: Designers should think about and be
ready to explain how the product is marketable. Would the
product be a success commercially?
