A sisterhood, A safe haven

What is Ghurabah?
Ghurabah means Strangers. The
Messenger of
Allah
(S.A.W)
said: Islam
began as
something
strange; and
it will return
as something
strange.so
give glad
tidings to the strangers." [Sahih Bukhari]. Islam started out with few followers and by the end, few will adhere
to its teachings despite having many
Muslims. So give glad tidings to those
who follow its commands.
Seeing as we are all strangers in this
world each biding their time before
they meet with their Creator; We
must try our best to seek the pleasure
of Allah by following the teachings of
the Quran and the prophet (PBUH).
One way to accomplish this goal is to
help each other to enjoin that which
is good and forbid that which is evil.
That is the true essence of this group.

Why now?
Societys moral quality is degrading.
Gender equity is killing gender equity. The world has become a place
for those with the highest credentials,

and advancements and success is now based on network base As a result, individual females are the most
vulnerable to the negative psychological and physical
effects of societal norms.

Seeking and Passing knowledge

The Prophet (PBUH) said, Seeking knowledge is
obligatory upon every Muslim and mentioned that
"If Allah wants to do good to a person, he makes him
very knowledgeable in Islam." ( Bukhari and Muslim).
Knowledge is the basis of all good. It generates actions that are based on Allahs commandments and
the Sunnah. Knowledge of Islam helps us to know
Allah (his pleasures, how to worship him, his displeasures etc.) The prophet (PBUH), tricks of the
shaytan etc. We must strive to gain knowledge of the
religion and seize every day as an opportunity to better ourselves.
The prophet (PBUH) also ordained all his companions and, thus, every Muslim who possesses some
knowledge to "Convey (what you learn from me) even
if only one verse" (Related by Bukhari). Gurabah
aims to serve as a group where we can ultimately seek
and pass knowledge to one another.

Sisterhood in Islam
No matter your skin color, the language you speak,
your socioeconomic status etc.; we are all united like
a single family in Islam. The Prophet (SAW) said:
The relationship
of a mumin to
another mumin
is like a building, one part of
which supports
others (he intertwined his fingers). Further-

more, he said If anyone relieves his

brothers anxiety in this world, Allah
will remove one of his anxieties on
the Day of Rising. This group aims
to establish a sisterhood that provides
a safe space, acts as a living journal,
and to be role models for one another.

Maintaining Cultural
practices
Islam was not sent down to abolish
culture. It was sent down to put an
end to cultural practices that were
causing problems within society and
giving elevated status of a group of
people over another. Allah says O
mankind! We created you from a
single (pair) of a male and a female,
and made you into nations and tribes,
that ye may know each other...
(Surah 49: 13) . Being from many
different cultures is an opportunity
for us to educate ourselves about each
other and most importantly educate
others about ourselves.
