TV News Program Format

Task 1:
For this task we will be working closely with the Journalism Students, to make
a TV news program that will be of a high quality and professional outcome.
We aim to cater to a range of audiences and work as a team to make the
productions run as smooth as possible.
Target Audience For both TV productions we aim for a demographic of 1845 year olds. This is a mix of people that like to watch news about:

Weather
Sport
World News
Entertainment
Local News

Style- for the style of the piece we are setting out to achieve the professional
and technical quality of TV News programs such as the One Show and
Channel 4. The style of these particular programs bring in many types of
audiences and the quality of the shows are at such a high standard that they
captivate their audiences from the opening credits.

Camera- for the camera techniques we hope to involve a lot of professional

clean-cut shots of the presenters. We wish to open up the show with MS of
the two presenters then as each presenter begin reading their stories the
cameras will cut to the individual presenters as they tell their news piece.
With this set up we want to make sure that the green screen backdrop will

involve images or videos of the stories that are being presented. We will be
using 3 broadcast cameras, with one camera for each presenter and then
one camera in the middle focused on both presenters as they read off an
auto cue.
Like the one show and the channel 4 news, we intend to have a smooth
crosscut of both presenters as they present the news. This means that the
audience wont get bored of looking at one static shot for the duration of the
TV news program.

Lighting/ cinematography- throughout these TV news programs we intend to

have sharp, warm lighting that invites the audience into a universal and
welcoming program. Like the One Show and Channel 4 News, we aim to
achieve the professional outcome of their cinematography and aesthetic.
With a green screen backdrop we wish to have a smooth lighting on both
presenters and the green screen so that there will be no pixalised patches of
the pieces in the final edit. We will be using the over head lights in the studio
to give the warmer tones and then will possibly be using the diffuser lights to
balance out the colors and lighting so that the presenters can be seen clear,
and that the green screen will be evened out in tone for editing.
Sound/ Audio- for the sound engineering of the programs we set out to use
collar MICS as this will be easier to set up a sound system and mix the
volumes of the presenters speaking clearly. This gives us a better chance to
mix the correct audio so that there is no peaking or distortion in the final
edit. We will control the sound in the control suite, from cables that are linked
from the studio into the control room. For the opening/ closing of the
program we will have an input of a countdown and music, like the One Show
and Channel 4 News. This gives a higher quality to the piece and sets the
standard of the piece to better level of professionalism for the audiences that
will be watching the programs.

Mis en scene- the main set up of the productions will we set in the studio.
Like the One Show and Channel 4 news this gives us the opportunity to
control the environment and setting that we are in, making it a easier to run
the production more smoothly. We intend to use cut away way shots of
footage found online of the News that the presenters are discussing, for an
example if there is a war going on there will be video footage and evidence
of this.
Editing- for the final edit of the two productions we wish to have a clean cut
professional edit that has multiple techniques involved. With this we intend
to use special effects such as green screen, logos in the opening and drop in
images and footage throughout the piece. As there is a weather news report
we will add in a weather backdrop to engage the audience so that they know
where the weather report is for and can see what is going to happen for the
weather in the days to come. We are setting out to give the program an
inadequate amount of class and involvement for the audiences as much as
possible.
Pre-recorded packages- for the pre-recorded packages we intend to use short
2 minute pieces that we have been working on in a separate class. These
pieces will involve topics such as tourism, Power of the Internet and
packages about programs that are on around the City of Derry/Londonderry.
For the package that me and another student named Michael Foster have
produced will; involve the Power of the Internet and why the Internet should
be kept free. This 2-3 minute piece will involve:

"The Power Of The Internet" - a compelling, creative video

demonstrating power of the Internet and making a case for the
continued "freedom" of the Internet.

Wanting to highlight the mainly positive aspects of an increasingly

online culture.

Not glossing over risks and pitfalls of the Internet either.

Aiming to inspire, educate and encourage people to support a

connected, clear and transparent means of communication like the
Internet.

To be styled on existing viral videos with powerful messages told in an

interesting and aesthetically pleasing way.

For the live interviews of the productions, we intend to use people that are
interested in sports and have one on one discussion with the presenter on
the interests and the outcome of the sports that they are discussing.

My role in the production is to be the camera set up. For this role I will have
to make sure that all the cameras are set up perfectly, with the correct ISO
and exposure. With this I have to set up white balance for the cameras and I
will be working closely with the director and light operator so that we get the
correct color quality and focus of each camera. I will also have to make sure
that the color of the green screen is at equal quality and color for the 3
cameras.
