- The last time she is searching for jobs beneath her level

She went to the VDAB herself


The VDAB refer her to ENAIP
At the time of the interview the women started 3 months ago at ENAIP
In the beginning she had her first group lesson
o Process
- First everyone did a proposal of himself
- Who are you, what do you want
- They got a lot of forms
- Gain self-knowledge but she didnt do this step because
she did it already before
o Because of she was good naturalized, she wasnt at her
convenience
o She was better than all the other students
o She knew already everything

She got also 4 individual lessons


o She got helped at ENAIP by Wendy. Wendy helped her with
searching for work
- She was looking if the client searched well
- She made a lay out of the CV
- She improved some things of the CV
- She made the CV better after Wendy helped her, she
thinks the CV is 100% okay
- She helps writing some letters

Till this moment she doesnt found a job


o Since 3-4 years she has some difficulties with the search for a new
job
o She has the thought that the employers ask more younger people
o She thinks that older people have only a small chance to get a job

Process

Expectations/wishes

The client didnt had any expectations or wishes before the process started
o She knew a lot because she did already a lot of applications
o She knew where she had to search and how to response

- This was a subject what she didnt know well
- She needed help for this part
The only wish she had, was to find a paid job

Problems

She hadnt any problems or difficulties during the process


o Because she already lived a long time in Belgium, she started the
course, she was already acclimatized
- She knew the language very well
- Had no problems

Personal feeling

She had a very positive feeling about ENAIP


o She was very satisfied with the way of going and how they helped
her
o Wendy helped her very well
o She was very satisfied about the individual lessons

She doesnt have any thoughts for possible changes in the company, but
she has one for the RVA (Rijksdienst voor arbeidsvoorziening the
national employment office)
o At ENAIP she hasnt any idea to change something
- You have to keep in mind that she only got 1 group lesson
and 4 individual lessons, so she didnt follow the whole
process at ENAIP
- ENAIP is working very well (she gave the example that
ENAIP really worked personally you werent a number,
but a person)

Strengths of the company the company looks at each client individual,


they are very personal, good service, they have a look at the hole overview
Weaknesses of the company the client didnt experience a weakness
( keep in mind she had only 5 lessons!)

Extra information

She doesnt receive help from another organization


She is very happy that she was helped by ENAIP and that she participated
o She hopes she find some paid work soon

She was only a few times at ENAIP, but the atmosphere felt like home

- She was refer to Stebo (similar company like ENAIP)
- Stebo had to spare some money
- The client went back to the VDAB

- Then she was refer to ENAIP


Group lessons
o She followed no group lessons at ENAIP because she already
followed group lessons at the VDAB
o She didnt like them
- Talking about yourself and your life
- There were some familiar people, so she didnt want to spoke
about herself.
Individual lessons
o This is the only thing she followed at ENAIP

Expectation/wishes

The only expectation she had was to find a paid job

She had no idea what could be changed at ENAIP

Strengths/weaknesses

The company worked very well


They are doing a lot of efforts to help the clients
She felt accepted and was very happy

I liked the guidance that I got at ENAIP, but Im not finished yet.
Group sessions
o We have learned how to search for jobs in the newspaper or on the
internet
o We have made an application letter and e-mail and learned which
words we can use in such letters.
o We have learned how we can call to an employer to ask for more
information
Individual sessions
o We have learned to understand vacancies
o We find out if we have the right skills for the job
o We learn to set up a mail or letter to application
o We learn how we have to add our resume to our application

Process

Expectation/wishes

My expectation was that I found employment and I did. I found a job from
October till January.

She wouldnt change anything about ENAIP

Strengths/weaknesses

The building is old but it has everything it needs for this guidance.
The circumstances to learn are good, both for the group and for individual
appointments

Process
Before ENAIP
o The people have an intake conversation at the VDAB
- If the employers of the VDAB think that the clients are able to
work, they refer the clients to ENAIP
At ENAIP
o They get some training of the application
o The clients start with some group lessons (+/- 10 people a group )
total 40h group lessons
- Who am I, what can I do? , more self-knowledge
- They help with making application letters
- Make a CV
- How do I write a good letter or mail?
- Preparations for the application conversation
- What are their right and duties?
o After the group lessons, there are 4 weeks with individual lessons
this is once a week, with an appointment
- They will search personally with the client
- The student is assisted further on their personal needs
- What is their job target and what jobs are at the labour
market at that moment they search together
- Prepare the application
- Teach some application skills
o After the individual lessons the clients have to search for a job
independently
- A lot of work begins at that point for the client
- He has to sign up at some workplaces
- They have to learn it independently
- The student always can make new appointments with the
people from ENAIP by phone or mail after the four individual
lessons
- For example when they have some questions of some
application procedures
Protocol
They dont use a standard protocol
o They receive information of the clients, before they come to ENAIP,
from the VDAB
- At ENAIP they first read the info from all the clients
- Then they are making an overview about the level of the Dutch
language and how the lessons should look like
- They are changing the process to the capacities of the clients
o At ENAIP they dont use any tests or assessments
- In the middle of the groups lessons they evaluate the progress
o There is an optional follow up

This is possible by mail or telephone


There are no pre-written rules about the communication
(between client and employee) and follow up
Success is when the student get a job with a contract
Disciplines
They have some different disciplines and professional working at ENAIP
o Pedagogue, people with experience with the job re-integration,
teachers, linguist
o He doesnt think they need another disciplines in the company, the
company does a good job with their current team
Personal opinion
He thinks the work that they are doing is good with a good process
o The process depends on the context
o They sometimes change the process because of the characteristics
Problems
He doesnt have experienced any problems because of the cultural barriers,
sometimes the language wasnt at a good level
The clients arrive sometimes too late at appointments
It often happen that the clients are a little bit angry, because they didnt find a
job immediately after the process.
Strengths/weaknesses
Strengths of the company: they are a small company but are helping a lot of
people, because its a small company, everybody knows each other
personally.
Weakness of the company: the employees are only a small group to help the
clients

She is a job counsellor
o She said you need some life experience a certificate isnt enough
- They dont assist only, there is also a life aspect
o She loves her job and said she receives a lot of satisfaction

First they screen the dossiers of the participants


- Looking for some disability, strengths, weaknesses,
competences/skills, language knowledge
- How are they orientate or re-orientate the person

Process

The clients will work in group to become ready to go to the


labour market
They are working to the capacities and the needs of the clients
- Its possible to have a doctor from Afghanistan or a poor
man from Italy

Group lessons
- They are giving workshops to the clients
- They are working in groups together
- For example they have to make a paper tower so
they have to collaborate
- These workshops can be an extra training of the Dutch
language, learning how to work with a computer, etc.
- The employees can estimate the competences of the students
+ strengthen the competences
Individual lessons
- The employees look at to the competences of the client
- They will look for some contacts with employers about a
vacancy + they will introduce the client to the employer
- They strengthen the competences of the clients
the women said that the employers have to be more
informed they must know more about people with a work
disability
If people are doing things without respect, the employees will discuss this
with them
The employees are looking at their own appearance
- For example the choice of clothes

Protocol

At ENAIP there isnt any protocol or manual they use during the process
o They have to feel it themselves
o They cant be too familiar
o During the process there isnt any test or assessment
- This is already done at the VDAB
This year 140 people start 8 weeks for each group
o They have success when the clients are able to search for
work independently and if they become more independent

Changes

Some clients have a wrong sight of the company in the beginning


o Some think they will receive immediately work
o They are confused when they have to begin with the
education
o 1/3 students has a wrong sight on the content
o She said the pressure of the job is too high
o VDAB expects too much from the clients
- They dont have an individual approach
- The help they are giving would be of a better quality
when they have to help less people

She said maybe its a good idea to have a social assistant in


the company or enlarge the current team of ENAIP cant
effort it. Solution: trainee no costs and lower work pressure

Strengths/weaknesses

Strengths of the company: a good team with different backgrounds, takes the
time to help each person individually
Weaknesses of the company: the accommodation (too small and old), less
resources, the Dutch language level from the clients is too low.

Process
Group lessons week 1
o The base of application

o Computer working with templates (its easier because
mostly they dont know how to use a computer)
o Looking for jobs (using different websites)
- Those who still need help will get guidance
o Persons with a kind of limitation (through work) get referred by
GTB to ENAIP when theyre foreign
Group lessons week 2
o Follow up of the applications (often a lot of different
employment agencies)
o Fill in a file (where did and which application) this turns into
a special folder
o How do you keep your application warm?
o Telephone (when do you call back when you dont hear
anything from a company or employment agencies)
o How do you prepare for this?
- Agenda in reach
- No background noise
- National number
o Make a call with a company to get some feedback of the
application
o Short courses (e.g. hygiene) at the website from VDAB
Individual sessions
o Checking files of VDAB
o Looking for jobs
o Creating a personal email address
o When applying for a job through mail, send it first to personal
guide at ENAIP
o Giving additional info through on the process

Disciplines

No knowledge or profession/discipline missing


Character of person is most important
They had a social worker and a psychologist but that didnt work because
there couldnt create a good relationship with the clients
Approach to the group
o One group reacts good on an approach with e.g. cards to
explain something
o Another group has more benefit from a neutral approach

Strengths of the company: flexibility and individual approach


Weaknesses of the company: sometimes the individual approach can be a
weakness when the Dutch language of the client is at a low level.
