The Fiesta de las Flores, a family oriented event allows children free admission, and
also features Latino and southwestern cuisine. The eighty (80) booths are sponsored

enjoyment to the festivities. The booths also feature games such as La Loteria and
games of skills. Ninoville provides rides for young children. The Fiesta features over

The first Fiesta de las Flores was organized in the Segundo Barrio in El Paso at
Oregon and Fifth Streets. It moved to Hugo Meyer baseball field at Washington Park
in 1956 and to the El Paso County Coliseum ten years ago. Since the first Fiesta,
civic and charitable Latino organizations participate in the Fiesta by sponsoring a
queen candidate and selling traditional Mexican and regional food, as well as arts
and crafts. Professional and aspiring local performing artists provide the
entertainment, and, the Huacha tournament (similar to the American horseshoe
competition) brought skilled teams from throughout the Southwest and California to
the World Huacha competition of the Fiesta de las Flores. For many years, The
Fiesta de las Flores queen was selected during the Fiesta and crowned at an
elaborate coronation filled with pomp and pageantry at the El Paso County
Coliseum. Nationally known bands are brought from Hollywood, California, Texas,
Mexico and Mexico City to perform at this important social event. In recent years,
the queen has been crowed immediately after the selection at The Fiesta on Sunday
night.
