The Dragon Isles: A Faerie Tale: This was the first

book selected for the 2016 book discussion group
at Stow-Glen Retirement Village. We are privileged
to have the author, Jane Sahr, as a member of our
group. This story was a twenty-five year labor of
love. It began from her art work and evolved into
this charming fairy tale.
It has all of the elements of a
great fairy tale: a spiritual sleeping
dragon, faeries, wood dwarfs,
ambient magic, and stuffed animals
that come to life! Aunt Jane and
friends help the orphaned Faerie
Princess Gwyneth Joy overcome her
malevolent aunt the Faerie Queen
to restore the faerie kingdom to Princess Gwyn,
bringing peace and harmony over all the land.
I highly recommend this book for tween readers or

Libraries Transform
Why
Libraries are
Transforming
Today's public
libraries are dynamic.
Always changing,
adapting and
transforming to meet
the needs of their
communities. And
so it is at the StowMunroe Falls Public
Library. The American
Library Association has
organized a campaign
highlighting the
transitional nature of
libraries across our
nation. We celebrate
our changes with
them.

Coming soon! Look for

these on our shelves.

BRIDGING THE
DIGITAL DIVIDE:
The digital divide is real.
Libraries transform to
play an essential role
in bridging the divide
and not just through
access. According to
Pew Research, 63% of
newcomers feel theyd
need some assistance in
learning how to use the
internet.

INFORMATION IS
GROWING AT A
BREAKNECK PACE:
According to Eric
Schmidt of Google,
every two days now the
human race creates as
much information as
we did from the dawn
of civilization until
2003. That's about five
exobytes of data a day.
Libraries transform to
help people cope in the
digital age.

If you're in the mood to

explore a different world
and see what life was like
for girls and women before
the modern era, jump back
in time with me to New York
City in 1890, where Josephine
(Jo), a smart, privileged girl
from a wealthy family, wants
to do more with her life than
just be married off to a rich
young man to live a sheltered
boring life. She wants to be
an investigative journalist
like Nellie Bly, the famous
woman reporter who broke
early gender barriers to fly
around the world in a balloon

or got herself checked into a

mental hospital to report on
conditions there. Jo's written
an article she's sure will start
her on that track, if she can
only get it into her school's
newspaper. But then her
father dies, and she begins
to suspect that it wasn't an
accidental shooting, nor can
she believe it was suicide.
Overhearing something
said by handsome young
reporter Eddie Gallagher at
her father's newspaper office,
she becomes even more
convinced and asks him to
help her investigate, since she
is severely constricted in how
much she can do, not even
allowed to leave her house
unaccompanied. From the

Staff Pets

opening gravedigging scene,

you know Jo and Eddie
are going to get into some
shady parts of NYC as they
track down leads that begin
to cast light on the shady
dealings of Jo's father's
shipping company. This book
has just the right amount of
suspense and atmosphere,
danger and mystery, with
realistic historical detail (New
York is almost a character
in the story, it's so real), and
two likable characters in a
sweet romance. It also gives
the reader a glimpse into
life for nineteenth century
women, of both the upper
and lower classes. Both teens
and adults are sure to like
this one.

Let's Meet Lisa Maruna's Cat!

Lisa Maruna is
our Marketing &
Public Relations
Coordinator.

Kai-Lan was born in a

fraternity house at Kent
State University in 2010
and was rescued by Lisa
shortly after. She was the
only female kitten in a litter
of males. Her favorite food
is tuna (dry, never wet). Her
favorite activity is watching
leaves blow in the backyard.
She loves loud music, but
cant handle the sound of
the coffee grinder or vacuum
cleaner. Kai-Lan only cuddles
up to family members and
becomes very apprehensive
when visitors enter the house.
However, she likes to show off
at a safe distance.
Kai-Lan loves alone time
and can often be found
sleeping in closets. But the
moment she hears the words,
Do you want to eat?, shes at
her food bowl in a matter of
seconds!
