You have been invited to participate in an interview as a part of Eotvos Lorand University`s
study: Qualitative Analysis of The Norwegian Speaking Online Drug scene. You should only
participate if you want to; choosing not to take part will not disadvantage you in any way.
Before you decide whether you want to take part, it is important for you to understand why
the research is being done and what you participation will involve. Please take time to read
the following information carefully and discuss it with others if you wish. As if there is
anything that is not clear or if you would like more information.

Informed consent
The purpose of this study is to examine the online experience of new psychoactive substances
(NPS) to understand the role of online interaction in the experiences of NPS drug use. The
goal is to learn more about the experience of people who collect information from the web as
well as those who wish to use psychoactive substances for 1) recreational/spiritual reason or
2) enhance their cognitive skills.

Procedures:
If you decide to be a part of this study, you participation will involve:

consenting to an interview to be conducted over Skype, chat or through e-mail in

Norwegian
that the interview takes approximately half an hour
the interview focusing on you substance-related online and personal experiences
in the case of a skype, chat or e-mail interview the written content of the interview will
be saved for future references

Risks
The following risks may occur as a result of your participation in this study:
There are no foreseeable risks of participating in this study. The risks involved are no greater
than those involved in daily activities such as speaking on the telephone or using e-mail.
Because some of the topics matter related to substance use may be sensitive, there is a
chance that your recollections may become personal and emotional.

Benefits
Your participation in the study will contribute to our understanding of the online drug scene.
Compensation

There is no compensation for your participation in this research.

Confidentiality
The following procedures will be carried out in order to keep your personal information
confidential:
To protect your confidentiality, your name will not appear in any publications. You will be
assigned a pseudonym (a face name), I will not uncover sensitive information about you in
this research and the information collected will be kept confidential.
In the case of this online consent, you should be aware that this form is not being run from a
secure https server, therefore there is a slight possibility that responses can be viewed by
unauthorized parties, such as computer hackers.

Participant Rights

Your participation in this study is voluntary. You are under no obligation to participate
in the study.
You have the right to change your mind and leave the study at any time without giving
any reason and without any penalty
Any new information that might make you change your mind about being in the study
will be provided to you
