Special Projects and Activities

In addition to monologues, pantomime activities, etc., each student will participate in
the production of two one-act plays each semester. All efforts will be made to afford an
opportunity for each student to have a speaking role in at least one production.
Naturally, students are expected to be present for performances

Content
Because many students enroll in this course more than once, content varies according to
classroom makeup. However, topics covered include stage movement, makeup, vocal
skills, theatre history, theatre appreciation, theatrical vocabulary, and technical skills.
Classroom Procedures
Students are expected to participate in all class activities, assignments, and productions.
Students will be offered opportunities to work individually, in small groups/committees,
and as a class. Grading criteria for group work (as opposed to individual work) will be
outlined on a case by case basis. Tests and quizzes are primarily objective, but
occasionally there will be work that requires an essay response.
Homework
Given the high standards expected in core classes, theatre assigns no formal homework
as a rule. On those rare occasions when work is assigned outside of class, an equal or
greater amount of time is allocated during class for the assignment. The exception is the
memorization of lines, which requires some time outside of the in-class rehearsals..
Make-up Work
Students are expected to make up missed assignments within a reasonable time frame
after the original deadline was missed due to an excused absence. In most cases a
maximum of three class meetings is considered adequate, although additional time may
be allowed on an individual basis following an extended absence. It is the students
responsibility to check for any missed assignments upon their return.
Supplies
Students should at all times bring pen or pencil, paper, their school-issued planner, and
a one-inch three-ring binder (or its equivalent) to class. Students who are assigned roles
will be expected to purchase scripts (typically $5.00 each).
