1. SAMR-Substitution
Tech acts as a direct tool substitute, with no
functional change.

Reflect:
*Google classroom - answering Making Meaning reflection/questions that can be
shared whole class and discussed vs. students writing in Making Meaning
workbooks. Typing on Chromebook instead of writing with a pencil. To move to
another level, students can share responses with other students who can then
comment back to that student or use text to speech function and share on a blog
as well. A Google Slide Presentation on a geographical location, for example, can
move to modification by creating a digital travel brochure with student created
video and multimedia.

2. SAMR-Augmentation

2. SAMR-Augmentation
Definition/What this means in your words:

Add an image to create a visual representation

Enhancing an assignment with the use of

technology - such as commenting on a
document using Google

Reflect: List several examples of activities or projects where youre using augmentation with technology.
Discuss how one or two of these could this be moved to another level. Are there some examples that couldnt
or shouldnt be moved?
Google Slides - publish and add ability to comment on work to move up the ladder
Khan Academy - differentiated lessons and videos to learn (shouldnt be moved)
Clickers - get immediate feedback and alter your lesson as needed

3. SAMR-Modification

3. SAMR-Modification
Definition/What this means in your words: share
and collaborate with classmates, school and the
world...and get real-time feedback.
Reflect: List several examples of activities or projects where
youre using modification with technology. Discuss how one or
two of these could this be moved to another level. Are there
some examples that couldnt or shouldnt be moved?
K could write a narrative story on Word Press with 4th
grade buddy help.
1st - use google classroom to write book reviews and
classmates would be able to comment on each others
review.
2nd-4th grade - use google doc to write in any genre;
share with teachers and classmates; classmates can
comment is real and make modifications. What size is
the world of an elementary student?

4. SAMR-Redefinition
Definition/What this means in your words:

Add an image to create a visual representation

*Tech allows for a creation of new tasks

Apollo 13 Air Filter Scene

*Students can find and identify a tool to

demonstrate their own learning without a
previous example and at their individual levels

Reflect: List examples of activities or projects where youre using redefinition with technology. Dont have any,
which projects do you have that could be shifted to redefinition? What are hurdles to creating redefinition
lessons? For our information writing unit, we made magazines with the childrens writing on the Lucid Press
App and then we put the magazines on our classroom website for the parents to see in the form of a blog.
Parents and staff commented on the magazine articles.
Hurdle? Time and functional equipment, Childrens tech skills
*Redefining written how tos - using videos and then sharing - did this, is this redefine?
*Want to do a reading reflection blog with another 3rd grade classroom outside AES after reading same
books
*Mystery Hangout - Social Studies
