Lis Tips for Written Assignments

Brainstorm! Use a provided graphic organizer or write your ideas on a

piece of paper (it doesnt have to be neat).

Always use complete sentences and paragraphs.
A paragraph is usually 4-5 sentences long.
Each paragraph should have only one topic sentence.
A sentence contains a subject and a verb. Does your sentence contain

both?
Is your sentence going on and on and on and on with words like and
and so like this one? That is a run-on sentence! Divide it into smaller

sentences.
Then is used for cause-and-effect. Than is used for comparing

things.
There is used to indicate location. Their is used to show

possession. Theyre is a contraction for they are.

Were is a contraction for we are. Were is the past tense of to

be.
A lot is two words.
If you are unsure of how to spell a word, look it up!
When typing up your assignment, use a simple font and size 12 or 14

only.
Skip lines or double space all work (unless asked otherwise).
After finishing your assignment, read it aloud to see if there are any
mistakes.
