This subject guide is intended to assist the public with medical, health, and wellness
resources by providing a number of reliable resources. This guide includes websites and
databases that provide information related to general health and medical issues published by both
government and non-government sources.
Websites:
MedlinePlus
Published by the National Library of Medicine, MedlinePlus is a website where patients and
health professionals may find answers on a variety of subjects. Medline Plus is available in
English and Spanish and is updated daily to include seven medical dictionaries, a medical
encyclopedia , over 50 databases and consumer health libraries, and over 50 medical
associations.

The Center for Disease Control
The CDC website was formed to increase the health awareness and security of Americans. The
CDC provides general information on various diseases, healthy living, and local and
international health concerns.

National Institute of Health (NIH)
The National Institutes of Health is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
The NIH is responsible for the majority of government funded medical research which can be
accessed through the website along with various resources related to health and medicine.

The National Library of Medicine is the worlds largest biomedical library. Through its website
patients and professionals have access to numerous science and education resources, including
links to over 280 databases and websites.

The Mayo Clinic website provides information provided by over 3,000 health professionals for
the average patient looking for general information about common illnesses and medical
providers, as well as information for medical professionals and those interested in joining the
medical community.

The FDA website provides updated consumer information pertaining to all FDA activities and
producs as well as general health and medical information organized by audience such as
women, seniors, and students.

The HHS website provides information for the general consumer about government programs,
regulations, and plans related to health and medicine. In keeping with its mission to enhance
and protect the health and well-being of all Americans the HHS offers information about
general health and wellness, disease prevention, and patient rights.

PubMed
The PubMed database includes over 24 million citations for online books, biomedical literature,
and life science journals. Users can access abstracts and full-text articles published by the
National Library of Medicine as well as databases such as MeSH and LinkOut.
